this is aromathology... therapy to body (and mind) by the use of scents and more particularly essential oils to affect health and mood. Arromatherapy is also used in massage to ease body tension, indigestion etc.
i think for memory enhancement, it's more those fruity scents like lemon, grapefruit but also ginger, rosemary, thyme, basil etc

I ever read a report that eating a apple before sleep will be helpful to sleep ,I did so and the result was positive.It seems just like what you said above.

Bind-weed, a kind of aquatic creeper, found in our local, may be other part of world, common in China, can’t explain in Chinese. Very cheap and sales in vegetable market.
We called it brain tonic. Fry it and eat like other vegetable. If you have heavy brain work. Eat it and refresh.
