How to arm a knight!

The early chain armor was very easy to assemble, like wearing a sweater, set from the head. Late plate armor was more complicated——Need to wear a special "armed strait jacket"——there were leather belt links behind arms and shoulders. It was very cumbersome to equip a suit of plate armor, but there were acolytes to help their lords——the knights. Now it's my pleasure to introduce the process of how to equip a suit of standard Gothic plate armor :

1.Armed strait jacket

There are two leather armed belts in the arms, in order to closely linking it to the armor, so the is necessary to equip the plate armor. Besides, the chain armor on the small of the back and lower arm is to cover the physical active part which the armor could not protect.

2.Steel shoes, greave and cuish

The steel shoes and the greave are a whole part. The thigh armor is made of steel, so that the knight could free his legs on horseback. The linking of cuish and greave is a part of knee pad. Near the knee pad, it's a arthrosis protection armor, for the flank protection.

3.Chain armor skirt

The skirt goes around the waist, to protect the groin. Because this part could not be totaly covered by outer panoply. And knight needs a flexible waist to make offensive moves. Meanwhile the soft chain armor can protect the saddle.

4.Tergum

Solid tergum can defense the attack of swords on the buttocks and upper thighs. It should be tied by leather belt. Probably not too comfortable!

5.Plastron

This part is the strongest of the whole panoply. Because it bears majority of attacks. Plastron and tergum compose to be cuirass. They are not only linked on waist, but also on shoulders.

6.Shoulder armor, brassart, armpit armor, wrist armor and elbow armor.

These parts are very important to the whole body. And every armor is named by the part which it protects. Generally, they are linked by armed belt. Of course, it's very complex to equip them, but they can greatly reduce injuries.

7.Weapon belt, dagger, long sword

The weapon belt is the belt with which knight could hang all kinds of weapons. The knight in the picture, hangs long sword on the left side, sharp creese on the right, which could use in close fight, thorns enemy.

8.Collar armor

The collar armor covers half of the face and the throat, protects the most fragile areas. In close combat, throat is the primary target. This kind of collar armor is very popular in Germany.

9.Spur, armet

Spur is use to stimulate sensitive parts of horse, in order to increase its vitality. German helmet is large and comfortable, with thick pad in it, which can cover the ears and afterbrain.

     A knight armed with battle sinker and sharp sword...
         A warrior armed to the teeth...
          He is ready for action
          Rides his loyal steed
         Leaves his charnel castle
        Fights with the cruel destiny
            Wins his honor!
