| Yes Colaido, most foreign teachers earn in the range I stated and I accept what CShansello says ...that you might get 7000rmb in Guangzhou. We are not as rich as some people think..though we also know we are better off than most Chinese. On the other hand there are some jobs advertised as low as 2000rmb. The rich expats are the ones who are sent on business keeping their own salaries at home, getting free accommodation, and then getting an overseas or hardship allowance. They and the so-called backpackers are the ones that have made the bars of Shanghai tooooooo expensive! I agree 3200 is enough to live on Cshansello, indeed you can live quite well in small towns, but earning more gives you the funds to travel later! |

| Hi Melody, Last Year visited Hangzhou / Suzhou / Shanghai with my wife on holiday from 23rd October to 7th October (so including Chinese National Holiday Week). Hotels reserved over the internet from the UK cost: Hangzhou: 3 nights in 5* Hotel total cost CNY4312 (that hurt, but it was a very posh Hotel!) Suzhou: 3 nights in 4* Hotel total cost CNY2220 West Shanghai: 3 nights in 4* Hotel total cost CNY3200 Bund, Shanghai: 5 nights in 3* Hotel total cost CNY3390 (nicest of the lot... thankyou Astor Hotel) I hope that is useful to you |

| Look, it depends on your own spending habits. I would say you could spend anything onwards of 300 RMB/day, living in a budget hotel. That would NOT cover going to Shanghai and Beijing (not Pekan, please!) though. |
