any one of u feel confuse by hearing the stop brodcast in buses.
as i know, one stop even have a different english name in different bus. ect.some stop in beijing often call XXXqiao,but on some bus u will hear they call it XXX bridge. that cus in chinese "qiao" mean bridge.also i heard lots of ridiculous translation for place and food like goverment chiken.

so, how do u feel about that?

I agree with you Colaido. Most cities have a pinyin/English street name under the Chinese character street name. If it ends in 'road', or 'avenue' or 'bridge', it might be better for us foreigners (hehe ..re other thread) to read, but it is useless if we want to say it to a local. personally, I would prefer to see the pinyin... but it seems the battle is lost.

as u said, i often feel difficult to tell my foreign friend which stop should they get off by bus,generally, i just write a note in chinese then tell them to ask.

Very funny translation. Beijing are dealing on this translations, especially on the name of road. They will all follow Pinyin, but not English in the future.

Yes BBQQ, I think sticking to pinyin would be best. I don't think it is common internationally to translate.
