It is hard for you to receive service from foreign banks | |

![]() | BBQQ, I have no problems OR additional service involved when dealing with my American bank while living here in China. On the other hand, if I use Chinese banks to buy Traveler's checks or Cashier's checks, the Chinese banks charge a tremendous "service fee". So, I think it comes down to understanding that economically, domestic banks favor those who are residents. Only the World bank could cater to international business and they have done so in an environmentally disasterous way. Why do you need international banking services anyway? Keep hold of your RMB, the value is increasing more and more. __Windenergy__ |

![]() | The foreign banks are here not to give you, but to take from you. So you just expect that they will be more rich after few years working in China. don't expect, just hope everything to be honest and normal. They're here to make business, they are not something like Mother Teresa. |

![]() | Ellen, I fear you might be disappointed! I have previously said that they should increase the service by all banks, BUT first they will just look for the most profitable customers, generally not you and me! (Someone else commented on this). The modern slang term we use is 'cherry pick' - pick the juiciest fruits! In many western countries the consumer's view of banks is very low. |

![]() | An interesting thread. I agree with Paul that in many western countries people consider the banks to be a bunch of robbers. I think the Chinese banks, from my experience anyway, are much the same. It is interesting that in some western countries the Chinese people are often the target of robberies because it seems the bad guys know that Chinese do not use banks very much at all and often keep large sums of cash at home. The taxman can only get you if he can get the information about your income, and the banks are the easisest way for doing that. Cash under the mattress is not subject to any transaction fees or taxes. I think it is probably a good thing for Chinese to stick with their local banks unless the benefits of changing are significant. |

![]() | "Sanya, compare banker with a banker. Not wise to compare a Banker with Holy Soul Mother Teresa." ______ It was not a comparing. It was an APOPHATIC sentence. I.e. The way of explanation of the esssence of the things (in this case - the bankс) through negation. Comparing is another kind of logic thing - it is TRADUCTION. |
