For Chinese people who want to deposit or draw money in foreign banks, it will be a piece of bad news! Since there are a few sites of sales network, foreign banks in China has only focused their business on serving the high-end clients but not common ones.
It is said that clients will be charged more service fee if they choose foreign banks.

So long time China existed and Chinese people lived without foreign banks. So, I think we can live in the future withot their services as well. The same is about:
-Coca Cola
-KFC, etc. They are not necessary for our life. We can drink instead of Coca Cola - Tea and we can eat istead of KFC - Chinese food. And we will still going on to live.

So with or without foreign banks - I don't care. If I have enough money, every Chinese bank is good enough to take care for them.

However, the efficiency in Chinese banks is much lower, the arrival of foreign banks and partnerships with them will introduce some new business processes to China. These sort of improvements will be essential when the current construction based development slows down. These efficiencies will bring the higher standard of living that most Chinese are now looking for.

Quite true, I agree with Paul.
Too much improvement is needed for Chinese banks' service. Pressure of competition with foreign banks will speed up the reform in service quality of Chinese banks.
Surely, it "will introduce some new business processes to China".

BBQQ says: "China has only focused their business on serving the high-end clients but not common ones."

So what kind of competition is this?! It is not a competition. It is the straight way to the Chinese bank who do not " only focused their business on serving the high-end clients but not common ones".

"It is said that clients will be charged more service fee if they choose foreign banks."

Then, I will not choose them.

Right! That is what I meant. If they are doing like this they are not able to be competetive!

But the point is that they will find they need to compete. At first, the foreign banks get the cream and make big profits, so shareholders will be saying we want some of it too, and social commentators will complain about foreign banks making so much money. The Chinese banks will begin to copy to improve their services and profits. (Well, that's the theory of the market economy, and it mostly works out).

Yes, copy...It is sad...The true big success can come from the original ideas, not from copies...

We used to have a phrase in business ' World's best practice'. Copy the best, unless you are the best - then let others copy you.

My mummy said she will never put her money in a foreign bank. Why? "I don't believe them. " She said, "It's better to put our money in our national banks."

That maybe a kind of opinion in our society. I will not choose the foreign banks too if they can't offer:
1. many many branches in and around city.
2. free/low fare when I use the money in other cities.
3. better service.
