Hi there, In northern China, the most common main food may be the steamed bun, that is as necessary as bread to westerners. Have you ever tasted the steamed buns? If so, which do you like better, steamed buns or bread? This is a typical steamed bun. : )

Personally I prefer bread. So many different varieties to tempt the taste buds. The steamed bun is a little bland but will do when nothing else is around. They can be found almost everywhere in China these days I'm sure. They were a staple like rice and porridge in one of my school canteens.

Actually, I love mantou (steamed bread) very much. In the NE of China, there are many different flavours and some have spirals of chocolate or strawberry. The plain, freshly baked ones are delicious with noodles - though my Chinese friends think this is weird! I also love them roasted as they make a lovely snack with a cold beer on a summer evening. I love bread too though. Proper bread, not sweet, and toasted with butter, jam and honey.... or soft brown bread for sandwiches.... mmmmmmm.

I like steamed-buns, especially the ones that have just finished steamed. Very fragrant and soft.

That's one I like too and can buy them here which is nice for a change. There is an Indain bread often called 'nan' , 'chippatti', or 'roti' which is just flour and water, rolled out flat like Jioa zi wrappers with a little oil and lightly fried - fresh and warm there is nothing quite like it either.

Guest21215, you should at least post with a real account instead of throwing your opinions around like a lunatic that no one listens to. But as to answer the question, steamed buns are pretty good if you get some crispy peking duck in between it. Danny
