Shanghai: cost of wedding is as much as that of America

A report released that the average cost of wedding for a Shanghai couple in 2006 was 187,000 RMB while the average 'price' of wedding is 27,852 dollars ( about 190,000 RMB).
However, per capita GDP of Shanghai is 7000 dollars which is much less than that of America--40,000 dollars. In this way, the wedding cost in Shanghai is above the international standard. In fact, for most of these couples, the wedding fee was mainly paid by their parents, which added much burden to their parents.
You see, youth in Shanghai are living a luxurious life. But they will have to live frugally after enjoying an expensive wedding.

Hehehehehe, 187 000 RMB ! It is the price of an appartment in some provinces and regions like Xinjiang, Heilongjiang, Hainan, etc.
By the way, if people are smart and respect the money, they will go to have their weddings in some another place, where the prices are not so idiotic!
And PER CAPITA means nothing, because some CAPITA can get 300 000 dollars and another CAPITA to get only 3 000 dollars.

I find it hard to believe those figure, even for the 'rich' Shaghai people. maybe that is a figure quoted by one of the elite wedding shops. No way would I spend that much on myself or my kids!

Quite true. Wedding is just a ceremony. No need to spend too much money on it.

How lucky that I am not in Shanghai! LOL......
For me, anything including the wedding ceremony should be as simply as possible! Happiness do not always come from luxury!!!

The rich have a lot of money to do whatever they want. The poor want to realize their dreams or do something that they want. However, they can not because they are not rich. To hold such a luxurious wedding ceremony is not wise. Can we understand it that they just wanna show off how rich they are? Actually, they are indeed rich.

No, I don't think so. The problem is that in China, here are enough rich and not wise people who are able to support this high prices, but it is very bad result about the poor people.
The good way is to BOYCOTT this abnormal price-services. But for this we need a good will and a good knowledge. Why it is so easy for many people to boycott Japanese goods, but do not boycott these predator prices.
So "Let them eat cake is irrelevant here.", because not everyone is poor enough.
