| I got to know the Dream of Red Chamber when I was just 5 year old when I went to see the film in Yue Opera(Shao Xing Opera). The dream of Red Chamber in Shao Xing Opera has become one of the best treatures in Chinese culture in terms of the poetic classic lyrics ( it's hard to translate accurately into English) accompanied by the beautiful melody. One of the Classie episode-Dai Yu Burying the Flowers Background: (from other source) One day, overcome by a spell of melancholy after bickering with Baoyu, Daiyu goes to bury some fallen petals at a hillside and falls in deep weeping at the demise of the flowers. She composed a long, elegiac memorial poem for the dead petals, which triggers off a similar grieving response in the eavesdropping Baoyu. Daiyu's emotional tirades make sense in the context of the supernatural. It is strongly suggested that Daiyu is a reincarnated Crimson Pearl Flower that through good care by a Divine Attendant-in-Waiting in the heavens (the reincarnation of which is strongly suggested to be Baoyu) was imbued with sentient life. In exchange for this gift, the Vermillion Pearl vowed to be reincarnated as a human, and pay back her caregiver in the form of as many tears as a girl may weep in a lifetime. |

| The old versin in Shao Xing opera in 1962 was exported into Great Britain. The English people there were extremely attracted to it. the other beautiful episode-Dai Yu burning the love letters Background-from other source An accidental leak of the preparation for Jia Baoyu’s marriage with Xue Baochai by a maid struck Lin Daiyu ill. She was so ill that she was going to die. She asked Qingwen, her maid, to burn all the love letters that Baoyu had written to her, deeming them useless as their author had betrayed her. Ironically, while Lin Daiyu was on her deathbed, Jia Baoyu was joyously thinking that he was taking her to his chamber to. In fact he was made to marry Xue Baochai. When he realized who she was, Baoyu rushed to Xiaoxiang Garden to see what happened to Lin Daiyu. The news of her death knocked him out of consciousness. |
