GUEST98142 Hi, I want to travel by train from Guangzhou to Haikao, Hainan on Oct. 7 2008 and return from Haikou to Guangzhou by train on Oct. 13. I want to visit Meizhou and guangzhou after that.
Where can I buy tickets for the train and if it's overnight, how much are the sleepers?
We are seniors so would want lower bunks. We prefer a higher standard of class and aircond. if possible, train.
Can u help to give us a website to book train tickets or other sites with more information?
Thank you
Luukpla

Ok, sounds like you want soft sleeper lower bunk?

Guangzhou -- Haikou:
K511 (0655--1827) 11h32min
T201/T204 (1511--0146) 10h35min
K407 (2125--0854) 11h29min

Haikou -- Guangzhou:
K408 (0359--1456) 10h57min
K512 (2042--0849) 12h07min
T202 (2253--0932) 10h39min

Soft sleeper lower bunk costs 298 RMB each, one-way. T trains are usually better than K trains, but I wouldn't advise taking the T train for Guangzhou -- Haikou as it arrives in the middle of the night. K407 would be a better choice. Taking T202 for Haikou -- Guangzhou shouldn't be a problem.

There's no official online ticketing for Chinese trains. Online agencies usually charge a big commission for it, which I don't think is worthwhile.

GUEST98142 Hi Ellyse,
Many thanks for your useful information. Much appreciated! We have changed our routing now. We leave Hongkong to Meizhou, then go to Guangzhou, then to Haikou. I thought the Gzhou to Haikou train goes to Sanjay in Hainan and NOT to Haikou. Please confirm this point. Then we go from Hainan to Guangzhou to go back to HK. We are from Canada and we are seniors - is it safe to travel overnight on ourselves with our bags?
Any advice. Can we buy tickets on the day of travel from the train station?
If you like you can email me at gmail.com|phuttthai
Thank you. Luukpla

The train in question does terminate at Sanya (not Sanjay), and it does stop at Haikou enroute.
Yes, it's safe to travel on the overnight sleepers with your luggage.
I highly doubt that you would be able to buy sleeper tickets on the date of departure, especially since you want lower bunks!
I've also replied you at your email address.

There's no direct train for Jinan -- Haikou. The best method would be to change trains at Guangzhou.
Jinan -- Guangzhou: T179 (1930--1635) 21h05min
Guangzhou -- Haikou: K407 (2125--0854) 11h29min
Price would depend on your choice of seat, sleeper and bunk. Do you want hard seat, hard sleeper or soft sleeper? For sleepers, what bunk (upper/middle/lower) do you want?
