There're buses leaving from Tianhe long-distance bus station for Meizhou every 25-40 mins. Journey time is around 12 hours, fare 120 RMB.

Cost would depend on your choice of seat/sleeper/bunk. It's overnight so I doubt you want a seat. Round-trip is simply double the one-way price, there's no discount for buying round-trip.
Hard sleeper costs 185/191/197 RMB for upper/middle/lower bunk, soft sleeper costs 286/298 RMB for upper/lower bunk.
Are you aware that the same trains also continue all theway to Sanya?
Yes, there're buses from Haikou to Sanya. Express bus costs 85 RMB and takes 3.5 hours; normal bus costs 55 RMB and takes 4 hours. Someone also reported getting a seat in a shared vehicle for 60 RMB, journey time only 1.5 hours.
