Shoot down or not?

In Xingyang County of Henan Province, the slogan with several Chinese characters"飞车抢劫当场击毙" is glued on the police wagon. It means that those who robs on motors will be shot down. An official in the Xingyang Police Office said that the robbers will be frightened when they see those slogans. The slogan does help to decrease the cases of robbery.

The reason why they did so is that there are many robbers and when the case of robbery happens, it is hard for the polices to solve those cases.

However, it aroused heated discussions. Some people support it because it helps to decrease those robbery cases. While others say that those polices have no right to decide the robbers' lives and it is illeagal to do so.

Any comments on this? Eager to hear your opinions.

They can still hang you for stealing horses in Montana...at least the law is still on the books.

Only good people are deterred by laws or idle intimidation. Criminals do not change. If the slogans are not idle imtimidation, there may be a positive effect on criminals - they won't get to do it again.

Here in the US, car thieves start young and build careers, but even Montana doesn't hang car thieves.

I have zero tolerance for thieves and liars many of them graduate to murder and other terrible crimes.

Well, we should give them a chance to rectify their errors and start with a clean slate. For those who robs for the first time, we should give them a chance. For those robbers who rob several times, we should punish them seriously.

However, is that proper to shoot down them though it really has an effect on decreasing robbery cases?

Applause for those shoot down slogans! When common people are under serious threat from robbers, police should do sth to protect us.
Even the robber is a first time criminal, he deserved death after seeing such warnings.

To be kind to the enemy is to be cruel to the people.

The police has no right to sentence someone to death. The law has its say. Otherwise there is no need to make laws.

Someone is not just someone. They are robbers, who are dangerous to commons and society security. How could the law protect evils but not commons??

"The police has no right to sentence someone to death."

Yes,KEVIN. What's more, people who commits this kind of crime is not as evil as to be killed. Using this method only proves the local police is incompetent.

Anyway, they should be killed. Other kinds of punishments should be considered.

Killing them seems harsh but i'm with Griz on this one, zero tolerance. They start off as pick pockets, next petty robbery, then violent robbery and who knows what next. How about in some Arabic country, if they steal then they have a hand chopped off. Losing a part of your body related to the crime would deter most people especially rapists.

Agree with Davec. To kill them may be too harsh. However, we should not tolerate what they have done. The punishements for those robbers should be more severe but not to kill them.
