The range of comments suggests that collectively...we don't know!

Hey Carlos...I can tell you don't work in a government department in many a western country... you said " Mother should give her children "ideal-woman-image" and father of course "ideal-man-image". That is just not "politically correct". If you were to say that where I once worked, you would be called in by the matriarch... no, she would delegate to some unfortunate male over whom she had absolute control, and you would be counselled. The 'counsellor' would use phrases like 'sharing information' with you (very politically correct) rather than 'telling you' which is too masculine and definitely not 'pc', and endeavour to show you the error of your ways.

Language note: we say 'politically correct' but it is not a very accurate phrase, 'socially correct' would be better. It refers to ideals which you must adhere to, arguably by a noisy minority and no alternative thought is permitted. It is often used by men complaining about women's dominance, especially in areas like government equality has been actively championed, or by conservatives who don't like newer ideas.

I cannot see the logic of it either, but as we all know, logic doesn't always come into it.

You can also say that if a boy sees his dad mistreating his mum, then he may grow up like that also, even though deep down he knows it is wrong. Children learn from their role models whether the behaviour is decent or not.

Summersnow, maybe I should make a little correction. Domestic violence is very much studied here, and most studies show that in families (in many cases) where man beats his wife, her father has also been agressive and beaten her.
So, not all women that have aggressive father try to find aggressive husband. But when they find, there often is a connection to aggressive father.
When father acts like a tyrant, controlls and beats, there is shown that it makes it´s marks to childs mind. Powerful and all-controlling father becomes, among other things, an example of security, no matter how crazy it sounds.
If he can so totally control his family, he can do anything and protect family against world outside.
In real life that is quite opposite, though. A tyrant father obviously have no real control of his life outside, so he controls with violence.

And that´s what I did try to mean when talking about ideal-man-image.

Nice to be here a Finn, non native English speaker. Always, when let something stupid out, can say : sorry, it´s because of my bad English skills, LOL

If a woman have a model-father, she certainly expects to have a husband who has the merits like her father's. For a girl, a caring father's love is beneficial for his healthy growth.

GUEST32042 look, this does make a lot of sense, if you take a look at another site that deals with this, you will see that a study of about 38% of people apply to this. not including a test to see what women find attractive in men, this was just a test to see which women are married to men that look like there fathers. another discovery is that women who are not married to men that look like there fathers tend to find men that have similiar features as there father attractive.

another thing you people dont understand is that, if a woman detested her father, it seems that they find those qualities in him unapealing, and so if a man has similiar qualities as her father, it is a turn off in most cases. I AM NOT SAYING THIS APPLIES TO EVERYONE! just that this does make sense for a surprising amount of people.
