The above is air quality classes and forecast. But they are all in Chinese. I am not sure if you can read it.

GUEST71567 Hi, Moving to Suzhou, right after CNY of course. Have only been there once but will be working down the street from Renaissance Hotel. It seems that it is a good location and not far from anything a New York and Hong Kong rat like me would need. Stores, tailor, high speed train to Shanghai....heck even a golf course. Any comments on that area?

GUEST50134 The government estimate that 20% of all oil used in restarents comes from recycled sewew waste. Methods vary but the oily residue is scrsped off and purified. Check on line. Thr fruit is sprayed routinely with formaldehyde because the Chinese hsve not yet discovered refridgerated lorries. The air in Shanghai Beijing sujhou and other large industrial cities can be 3 times the Dangerous level. Almost everything can be faked. The meat loaded with antibiotics to promote growthand my familly havr just all had diarhea yestefay and today and the irony is we went to Hanan Dao for a break and got it eating fish.
Sure, China is ok for a visit but but if you are concerned about long term health then my advice is do not work here unless you absolutely have too. Unless your boss is paying you a foftune.

GUEST71234 Having moved to Suzhou myself 6 months ago I had the same concern about air pollution. Don't know about English websites but if you have a smartphone you can download some apps in English. They are called China Air Quality Index and Air Quality China. Basically they both show the quasi-live measurements of a lot of cities / measuring stations. I like the later one more because it has a handy widget. Don't know about iOS since these are android apps.

Having said that, it is actually quite depressing to monitor this. For instance the entire last week the level was either "unhealthy" or "very unhealthy" and in January/February is often was "Hazardous" or even off the scale.

Have to agree with previous comments about the safety issues. General safety level is very high since the police is ever present and vigilant. Big exceptions are the traffic and food safety. Drinking water is also not chemically treated so boiling it won't hurt but since this is not tropical area the risk is manageable.

GUEST65074 I guess this is quite late... But I attend an international school in suzhou SIP. Suzhou University is located in SIP (suzhou industrial park), and basically there are many international schools (which all teach proper british (some american) curriculum, including the igcse and ib diploma) all around suzhou, although the school fees are quite high. Most companies pay for the school fees, so if your company is one of them, then no worries for you.

GUESTSTEFAN Hi I bet you've live in Suzhou for a while. And I got a job offer in Suzhou and I plan to settle down there.

As I heard from my colleague, they told me is a high radiation and polution place to live and it is dangerous, is that true? Please advice.

Hello Friend,

No, I don't think so.
I am not Suzhou local people. But I had been to Suzhou for travel 3 times.
Suzhou is a nice and peaceful city, it's safe, and the scenery is very good.
I like Suzhou.

Tks.

Best regards
Grace

GUEST12826 In regards to fire saftey, even that the fire department does have ladder trucks, many apartment complexes do not have designed access for the trucks.

Just tonight we had a fire in my building in Hu zho an. The fire alarm did not ring, and only found out about the fire as black smoke entered the apartment.

After rallying the remaining apartments on my floor and instructing them to at least use wet towels to reduce smoke inhalation we tried the stair case, but the emergency lights did not work, and there was no way with the smoke to go down. About 10 minutes later the elevator came with 3 fire department guys, and we took it down.

We got lucky, the fire was concentrated in one apartment on the 15th floor, but if the fire would have spread and moved upward, our survival chances would have been low, in large part due to the fire alarm not working.

So even that suzhou is save, no crime, and in general a good place to live, you do have higher risks living in a country where maintenance on such simple items as fire alarms is neglected.
