Hi all, i am traveling to China from 5Th august for two weeks. I am a street artist, magician/clown and i will really enjoy making street show and charity show while i am there, anyone know if busking in china is legal or not? For busking i mean when a performer goes in the street, make his show and then ask for money in the cap. Also i will be happy to visit a fortune teller, magician, oracle or anything else. Anyone have information about that? I will be mainly in Shanghai, Bejing, Guiling, Sanya. Thanks, Luca

I've seen street singers. They might be caught by city cops since they have no licence. If you want to do it, maybe parks are better choices.

I just did quite a bit of street magic going through China but did not put on my old street act, just a few good effects for the kids...which entertained the parents too. The people seemed to enjoy the magic. I did not pass the hat, but imagin that passing the hat would draw mixed reactions. Some one will correct me if I am wrong about this, but begging appears to be frowned upon by many/most Chinese. One Chinese man told me that "...beggars have more money in their pockets than you do." You will not see many beggars even in Beijing. I did see people playing instruments at the north gate of the Forbidden City with cans for money and they were pretty much ignored by the Chinese. I suspect passing the hat would be seen as begging.
