Hi All!
I'm planning to travel from Shanghai to Xian. Does anyone know what is the best way? Train or Bus? (any resources on it?)

How long does it take by train or bus?
Later on I'd like to travel from Xian to Beijing and I've got the same question on how to get there.

I'm going very soooooon :) , please help me and thank you for advice.

The best way to travel from Shanghai to Xian and Xian to Beijing must be the overnight train. You may check out the details by clicking the Train icon in this page.

Don't even consider going by bus, my friends went by bus for Xi'an -- Shanghai and it was god-awful.
Shanghai -- Xi'an is about 16+ hours and 300+ RMB for hard sleeper one-way.
Xi'an -- Beijing is about 11 hours and 400+ RMB for soft sleeper.

Hi,KAROLINKA,

1) Best solution is to get best discount airflight through good agent then it is cheap and fast and comfortable. You may advance to reserve by 2 weeks or one month.

If best discount, then the cost will be close to by train ,then why not airline?

2) If you didn't get best discount airline, second is by train.

3)We don't recommend bus. Long distance bus will be not safe and also high cost compare with train. It didn't derserve.

Yours sincerely,

by train ,it will take about 12 hours
By air, it will need about 2 hours.
The train fro Shanhai to Xi'an is always crowded and you can try plane.
Anyway, if you get the ticket of soft sleeper of train, it's also nice.
As for the distance from Xi'an to beijing i suppose you try the Z 20 trian, which is quite ice and many foreign tourists choose this.
And I know a nice Professional English tour guide, named Jeff in Xi'an ,you can go to him directly if you have any question . His email adress is

Number of beds in each compartment as well as the presence/absence of a door for the compartment. Look on http://www.seat61.com/China.htm for more details.
