Many foreign friends has talked with me about their first impression for China. A friend from Austrialia said that China's hugh population made a strong impression on her. " China's streets are overcrowded, but in Austrialia, you will never see this phenomenon." Another friend from US claims that China is a kindom of bicycles, which he has never seen before elsewhere. Some others believe that China is mystical, ancient and a little bit conservative. Still some others think that China is a charming promised land full of possibilities. What do you think of China? What is the deepest impression that China has made on you?

For me the main thing I remember is the friendliness. Everywhere I went people were curious about this big western guy but they always smiled and helped me. I had people asking to have their photo taken with me, wanting to practise their English with me and in supermarkets I had staff holding my arm and taking me around to show me the products. My first impression of China was on arriving at Hong Kong airport, as I left the front door I remember it well, ' wow, how hot is that'

I know what you mean Dave, I didn't have too many want their photo taken with me, I did have my photo taken with some people at a company I visited with my girlfriend in Yueyang. In Beijing one young lady asked me if would marry her, I pointed out my girlfriend and said that she was my wife ( small white lie ) but it got me off the hook.

15 years passed with China and Chinese business, so very difficult to differentiate what is the most impressed one.

In 1978, the sea of harmonious humanity impressed me; In 2006, the cultural erosion and resulting chaos impressed me; In 2007, the geographic scale of the air pollution impressed me. On each trip I was impressed by the friendliness of the people not only to me, but also to just anyone walking down the street.

The more I meet Chinese people, and the more I talk to them, the better I understand that we all hold the same dreams. We all love our families and friends, and hope for peace in our lives and all hope to prospere without bringing harm to others. It is forums like this that bring better understanding to all and will break down the walls of misunderstanding for all to see that there is very little differance between us, what ever god or sytem that we live under. We are all Men and Woman of the World. Dodger.
