Calling experienced China Travellers!
Aug 27, 2007 01:05
Hi all,

I am almost ready to head for my China adventure. I see you all have a wealth of knowledge so I wondered if you could take a few minutes to check over my proposed itinary and tell me if (a) I am mad and this will not work (b) if I missed all the best stuff (c) picked all the wrong locations!

I start in Bejing on 6 October - 3 days
Datong - 1 day
Pingyao - 1 day
Zhongwei - a couple of days for camel trek
Xian - 2-4 days?
Songpan - 3 - 4 day horse trek
Chengdu - 1 day
Kumming - transit
Lijiang - tiger leaping for couple of days
Zhongdian - 1 day
Dali - 1- 2 days
Kumming - 2 days
Fly out to Vietine....... sleep for a week!

To much??? (I am thinking about one month to complete it all)....

Thanks in advance for the advise.. just not sure how long I need in each place....

Here is an alternative.
From Songpan head west and south via Maerkang area, you could still visit Chengdu but I suggest just keep heading south via Kanding to Zhongdian, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Lijiang and then onto Kunming and out from there. Save you a bit of a loop and you'll be travelling where fewer people visit and covering some stunning territory and culture.

Have a good trip

not mad. but much too busy.
one month, I suggest you just go to xi'an, sichuan and yunnan. Don't have enough time to go to shanxi. Most places you choose is wonderful. I suggest my places, many is just like yours.

xian: bing ma yong(terra cotta), hua shan, the city.(3-4 days)
sichuan: jiuzai, huanglong, hongyuan, dujiangyan, emei, chengdu, luguhu, daocheng.(2 weeks)
yunnan: meili, lijiang, dali, kunming(2 weeks)

Have a good trip

I really like your plan to ride camels and horses. Things like that stick in my mind much longer than ordinary sight-seeing.
