GUEST87220 well guest 53184 if you're not willing to mark know it's hard for me to know why you're asking. Are you waiting for someone to tuck you in at night and whisper sweet nothings in your ear. Just say "no". Lawyers and experts both inside and outside of China have told me this. As far as worrying is concerned you don't need to. If you were to be rejected at all it would most likely be at the Chinese embassy before you even leave when you pick up your passport.

GUEST34227 I'm also tired of these paranoid posts. Just say "no" like everyone here is telling you. The last poster seems to have inside knowledge. Why look a gifthorse in its mouth?

GUEST87220 what if I lied and got the visa before and now I want to be honest and admit if I go a few years from now? Am I screwed? I want to work in China and now I wish I was honest. What should I do?

GUEST16953 I can't seem to get a straight answer! Can a felon get a visa to visit China? I have a felony record for child endangerment. From what I read, so far, the answers are no and yes. Is there anyone out there that can offer a definitive answer?

GUEST87220: That would be bloody stupid. Why go looking for trouble? Being honest might appease your conscience AND because of the lie cause you to be rejected.

GUEST16953: The straight answer is that it's upto the Chinese visa staff to make a decision AND usually the answer is YES it will be granted. Quite clearly from prior posts, persons with records are being accepted. Quite clearly, some people are not declaring their coinvictions and being accepted. So far, no-one has posted a story about anyone being rejected either way. Either the authorities are not checking, or they are and still allowing entry.

So make a decison and live with it. No way would I declare a conviction. (I'm lucky, my 'conviction' is a 'no conviction recorded', a nice provision of my State's law, so I don't have to anyway.

GUEST49217 I was just wondering if there is a difference between a Conditional discharge that has no conviction vs a criminal record. I have a conditional discharge that will expire in 2010. Techically I dont have a conviction so does that mean I dont have a criminal record?

On my 7understanding, if you are convicted of another offence, the 'conditional discharge' will be taken into account or re-opened depending on the conditions. But until then you have been discharged. No criminal record. No doubt u have community law centres, why not give one a call to confirm this.

GUEST39025 Get this...

Last week I lodged my application after waiting in line for some 2 bl*&dy hours. I checked the "Yes" box with a brief description. I was told "You have a record, you need to bring a police record", and handed the form back to me. Great, no such info anywhere... When I queried her, she just bitched at me saying "this is a new rule".

Checked with the local copshop and by the time I would be able to get such a record, I would have missed the flight by a week at least. So went back next day (another wait for 2 hours) and checked the "No" box.

What seriously stinks IMHO is the fact that:

1. They did not stipulate such requirement in advance.
2. They insist on bringing a (copy of) flight ticket. So if there is a problem with the visa, your fare may be forfeited.

I'll be picking up the visa this week (qeue up again in a 100m long line). If any problem, will let you guys know.
