Recently, Made in China's reputation has been in trouble. The poisonous toys and un-qualified aquatic products caused great damage to China's manufacturing reputation. With these problems of Made in China, the world's attention has turned to India, another rising power in Asia.

In March, India's manufacturing exports reached 80 billion US dollars, taking 65% of its total export volume. This made India become one of the manufacturing giants in the world including Brazil, Thailand and Malaysia. In 2005-2006, the automobiles exports exceeded 2 million US dollars. Especially the automoble components industry has made great progress. Last year, its turnover reached 10 billion dollars and exports exceeding 1.8 billion. It is estimated that its turnover will reach 40 billion.

What's more, many mulinationals have set their manufacturing bases in India, such as Ford and Toyota.

With its remarkable achievements, people guess that India might become another manufacturing center in Asia and can compete with China. Some even claim that India will replace China in the near future.

What do you think? Will it become true?

China should not ignore the powerful economic influence to the world form its neighbour - India. It's better for chinese to be more open-minded and keep learning. May chinese economy influence to the world go further day by day!

Perhaps India will become another manufacturing center of Asia in the future, but not present. The infrastructure construction in India is weak, especially its harbours and electricty supply. However, we can not ignore this rising power. It also has several advantages. The costs of steel, cement manufacturing is low and the quality has been improved greatly. Similar with China, it also has superfluous cheap labours. All these have paved the way for India's further development. In order to compete with China in the international arena, India should promote its Made in India products in the international market and improve their qualities to meet international standards.

surely India is another rising power in the fields of economy, science and military.it has bigger influence to the Asia and the world .lots of people usually put China and India together and make a comparison. because the two have so many common traits. what's more ,the two all want to play an important role in district and world issues.both of them don't want give in to others forever.they possess the proud characteristics.china depends on its attactive policy and cheap labour quickly takes in lots of forgign capital and techniques and become the world manufacturing center. the development method of India is the same with then china. so suddenly another manufacturing center emerges in Asia. but the manufacturing highly depends on cheap labour and favourable policies, maybe a few years later ,their will be another manufacturing center in other places of the world where also possess the above two figures. the manufactureing industry always moves from one place to another place ,first Britain, then Germany, USA, Japan, the four tigers of Asia ,and then China, we can estimates which country will be the next manufacturing center, but we can not stop its impetus. so ,do not worry about who is the manufacturing center, whatever China or India, the market will make the final decision.

GUEST73120 India is plagued by infrastructure deficiencies, lack of strong political will to change, corruption, and mediocre quality of work. Overcoming these maladies with excess spending is still turning out to be cost-effective for the world to turn to India for manufacturng. If (and a big If), and when India solves these roadblocks to its development, it will pose a serious threat to China's dominance in manufacturing. And, frankly, despite pompous exaggerations from Indian politicians, such turnaround in India is a few years away...by which time, the world will probably reinvent itself in ways unforeseen...

GUEST43185 Not to mention their education. I'm abit surprised that there are about 5 China universities and about 4 from HK universities got in the top 100 best UNI in the world, which is quite enlightening to read.

GUEST21549 India has a long way to go before it becomes a manufacturing superpower.
In India, the wages are not even 1$ a day where as in China its around $3.
Cost of raw materials is also competitive.
If Indian politicians become more prudent and put country first instead of their own selfish motives and take a tip or two from Chinese policy makers , there is no doubt that India will send shivers to Chinese manufacturing in near future. But it all depends when our politicians wake up ??

In export sector, India weigh more on Software and service which is capitcal intensive and China on mfg products in electronics, auto parts, toys, etc that is labor intensive because Cn has superior infrastructures and better policies of supporting large scale of and attracting foreign investments.

If India does not see itself in a race with China (and I suspect it does), then it better wake up, because China is engaged in a race with India, as well as with Japan and the United States.
The competition in information and communication technologies is a great example of how the rivalry is playing itself out. As is well known, China’s technology success has been in hardware, India’s in software. The Chinese IT market is about 70 percent hardware, 12 percent software, and 17 percent services; the Indian market almost the reverse with 60 percent software, 20 percent hardware, and 17 percent services. Chinese companies have done well in domestic markets but, with the exception of Lenovo and Huawei, have not yet established themselves as true multinationals. Infosys, Wipro, and Tata, along with others, are true global players.
