![]() | During the Second World War, the whole human society experienced an unprecedented disaster. Most countries except US suffered a great loss in WWII. Britain was severely bombed. France was seized, a figurehead government was founded in Vichy. Russia is said to have a loss of 15 million people. Because of the war, China has millions of victims, its national economy was severely devastated. Four of the five powers ( the permnent members of security council except US) were severely ruined. Do you think which one is the most ruined in WWII? |

![]() | I think every one lost in that war.Millions dead and millions that had to move from their homes. With no winners and no loosers. Let us all hope that this does not happern again as the next time ( if there is one) it does we will all die. Dodger. |

![]() | I hope you are right Dodger and there is never another world war, the weapons used today would bring about the end for us all. |

![]() | Ironically, the nuclear weapon is so terrible that none of us dare to use it! And then we got no world war in the past half a century. |

![]() | BBQQ, that is the real power of nuclear weapons: its power of deterrent. As for the most demaged country, it should be USSR. It has the most casualties. |

![]() | The Second World War is a catastrophe for the whole civilized human society. The disgusting war claimed tens of millions of casualties. Overnight, millions of polish became homeless during the Blitz. Millions of wives lost their beloved husbands and became widows in that cruel war. Millions of Jews were slaughtered. For the whole international community, World War II was the darkest and the most shamed page of the history of human civilization. Russia is obviously the most severly ruined country in that war. Millions of male Russians died of the war. The severe subsequence is that Russians' population has experienced a sharp negative growth since that war. |

![]() | I think that East Germany (or DDR as was) suffered catastrophically during, and after, the war - The damage done to the USSR by the war left no means for the scale of reconstruction within the Warsaw Pact zone that was made possible for West Germany and Japan by the conserved economic strength of the US. |

![]() | TRAVELLERMIKE, Why do you think that East Germany (or DDR as was) suffered catastrophically during the war? It was part of Germany, and had little casualty. |

![]() | Defeated armies normally suffer heavy casualties, and the bombardment of Geman cities to force it into submission was formidable Country Soldiers KIA Wounded Canada 1,086,343 42,042 53,145 China 17,250,521 1,324,516 1,762,006 Czechoslovakia --- 6,683 8,017 Denmark --- 4,339 --- Finland 500,000 79,047 50,000 France --- 201,568 400,000 Germany 20,000,000 3,250,000 7,250,000 Greece --- 17,024 47,290 Hungary --- 147,435 89,313 India 2,393,891 32,121 64,354 Italy 3,100,000 149,496 66,716 Japan 9,700,000 1,270,000 140,000 Netherlands 280,000 6,500 2,860 New Zealand 194,000 11,625 17,000 Norway 75,000 2,000 --- Poland --- 664,000 530,000 Romania 650,000 350,000 --- South Africa 410,056 2,473 --- U.S.S.R. --- 6,115,000 14,012,000 United Kingdom 5,896,000 357,116 369,267 United States 16,112,566 291,557 670,846 Yugoslavia 3,741,000 305,000 425,000 . When I saw East Berlin may years ago (long before the wall came down, but decades after the end of the war) I was shocked at the level of damage still evident despite the efforts at reconstruction. |

![]() | sorry.... posted before finishing the composition.... the unofficial info I was trying to list was showing casualties of various country's troops.... Russian Killed in Action 6,12 million (over 14million wounded), next highest German Killed in Action 3,25 million (over 7 million wounded), China and Japan then come in with well over a million Killed in Action each, I do not claim that the figures are accurate. My original point is that the heavy casualties suffered by East Germany were followed by decades of economic woe. |

![]() | And yet Russia killed 30 million of it's own people and the World has said little? Dodger |
