XIAMEN to Shanghai or Xiamen to HK?

I've never been to China and am just basing this question on an internet map and my mom's heritage.

Would it be more adviseable to travel to Shanghai from Xiamen or see Macau/HK instead?

Pro's and Con's?

Spring Airlines (http://www.china-sss.com) is the best way IMHO to travel between Shanghai and Xiamen.

xiamen to Shanghai or ningbo

hello i am thinking of going to xiamen from thailand, but would like to go to shanghai. i dont want to fly if possible i would like to take a train. i am just wondering how long to shanghai and how much it costs by train.
also is it possible to get a train from xiamen to
ningbo?

Flying Bangkok -- Xiamen by budget flight, I presume?
Xiamen -- Shanghai by train takes 24h31min and costs 158-442 RMB, depending on your choice of seat/sleeper.
There're no direct trains for Xiamen -- Ningbo.

You may also want to try bus between Xiamen and Ningbo. The Ningbo bus station info line is 0574-8709 1212

Teaching "on the way"? What do you mean? I hope you don't imagine that you could just walk into any classroom, "teach English" for 2 hours and move on with a paycheck.

GUESTJUDE ONG Ni hao friends,

I will be arriving at Pudong International Airport on Thursday, June 24th at around 15:15 hrs. and plan to travel to Xiamen by rail on the same day or the next day (June 25th), whichever is more interesting.

Please advise & assist me with my travel plans by rail from Shanghai to Xiamen. I wish to go in air-conditioned sleeper trains by first class in the quickest time possible.

Kindly tell me how to make an online reservation, payment, departure station and schedules. I'd also be very grateful for extra tips regarding rail travel in China as this will be my very first train journey in the land of my ancestors!

Xiexie ni and I'm looking forward to making lots of new friends during my vacation in the mainland!
