GUEST26218 i disagree. It really depends on where you are from. In the old beijing city (inside the 2nd ring of beijing) you can definitely say 吃了吗 at any time ..... although its true that nowadays us young people dont tend to say this anymore

There is old saying that "Food is the first necessity of the people" in China, so I think this is the reason why people great each other with " Have you eaten already?"
