There is no such thing as an extension. You can apply for a new visa. Inside China you go to a PSB office and apply. I believe 30 days is the normal maximum. Outside China you can get 3 month visas with multiple entry making maybve 3X30. In the Olympic Games period, think in terms of 7 days from inside China (that's all I received on one occasion in the past), from outside - zero to as long as you have booked hotels.

GUESTANQI Hello there.
I am going to Hong Kong soon (20th of August) and apply for a 30 day L-Visa for the Mainland. (
I gonna meet my boyfriend in HK (he lives in Beijing and has a long term X-Visa, so no probs for him) and actually want to leave HK on the 28th to go back to my beloved Beijing (my bf has to be back in the Jing at least on the 29th of August, to enroll for his new semester).
My flight back to Europe will be on the 30th of September....and here lies my problems...I actually have 3 to 4 days too less.... :(
Can I extend my L-Visa at the PSB in BJ for a week or would it be a problem? I wanted to call them and ask (i speak mandarin), but I couldn't get any number or anything. I also asked the visa agency in HK but they just told me, that they have no idea.
I know I could just leave HK a little later, but I want to spend as much time as possible with my boyfriend and all of my friends back in BJ....so is there a chance? ..and it's after the Olympics ;)

It would be great if you could help me.

Thank you very much....greets

Anqi

GUESTMJ Hi

I'm a canadian citizen and I have a question concerning my application for visa. I asked for a 90 days visa but I obtain only 30 days. Do you suggest i wait to be in china to ask for an extension of my visa or you think it is possible to ask again in the embassy here for a different type of visa like a double entrie ? It's a tourist visa by the way.

Thanks for your tips !

Hi GuestMJ,

I think you should come to China with your 1 month tourist visa and directly ask for an extension once in China. But it depends, where you go and how long you need to extend...
I just know that you can get really easily a 1 month extension for L visa in Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau. And you should be able to renew it twice (so you'll get 3 months in total).

Hope it can help.

GUEST44223 Hello,

I currently have a multiple entry tourist visa (good for 30days), but need a study or business visa instead (will be attending classes for a little over 60 days). I hold a US passport. Would it be best to get a new visa once I am in China? If so, what would be the procedure? I would prefer that over having to leave the country 2x. What are other options? I do not have enough time to get another visa back in the US before I go to China.

GUESTTURPANGA Hi,

Thanks for all the great info here, it answered most of my questions.

Like Guest44223, my question is about having an L visa and needing a Z visa or an RP.
I plan on moving to Turpan in Xinjiang, China to teach English. I believe I can find employment once there , but am having problems contacting anyone in Turpan regarding work and an invitation letter while here in the US. I can't apply for a Z visa without those, so...
What is involved in obtaining a Residence Permit (or a Z Visa I could convert to a RP) from within XUAR (while on a Tourist Visa) once I have an employer lined up?
Am I correct that the employer needs to file something with a PRC agency and get a Foreign Expert Work License for me? Once that is done, what are the nuts and bolts of getting said Z visa or RP, and renewing it on an annual basis?
I have seen online 'agencies' that provide everything I am asking about, but I am reluctant to use such a service, just as I am reluctant to "just go" and trust that everything will be worked out.

Thanks in advance for your time,

Turpangalar

GUEST86134 Hi,
I came to Beijing from India in june month with 30 days L-visa. Later I got it extended as Single Entry, and valid up to 31st December 2009. Now I am in India. I want to come back to china in this month. Can I enter into China with the same L-Visa or I need to apply new L-visa in India?

I have checked with the indian travel agents. They are saying I need to apply again. Is it so?

Please reply to this as soon as possible as I have to travel soon.
