Everyone has been talking about how great China was, is & will be. It is a fact that China is on the rise as a world power - esp economically. Consequently, it is rising as a political power as well. "When China speaks, the world listens" - wow, such wonderful words that ring sweetly in my ears. Has anybody ever wondered the reasons for this quick rise in China's status ? I am sure there must be many reasons for it. But let's narrow it down to just 2 for discussion here : is it the govt or the people ? Views are welcome.

Mr Gryokan, good to see you are back. I think the two reasons are the foundation of China prosperity and power. #1 you cannot ignore 5.3 billion people under one roof. #2 the second but not last the political change in China government on the last decades.

Definitely people are responsible for the rise of China. People have been pushing the socity forward, not only China, but the rest of the world. Karl Marx said so:P Government's role can't be totally ignored. Government's responsibility is to hold the people together, make decisions, protect the country, etc. Capable governments with right decisions accelerate the speed of the progress. Though government doesn't always make the right decisions, which is worse, they made wrong ones to hold back the progress of the country, the socity still impulse to develop. Because that's our instinct to have a better life, and we have to work for that. If we all work hard, no reason our country doesn't develop as our own life gets better and better.

The Chinese people have always been great traders and have understood mass production long before the rest of the world. As the government loosens control they will only get stronger. So I agree with the point that JC has made in #2 #2 the second but not last the political change in China government on the last decades. Dodger.

I guess, total growth developed by the Respectable political leaders and their decision. (Past and present). They are running a train 300km/sec. If you able to catch & sit on the train, your speed also be 300 km/sec. Have many explanation, this is short form only.

Undoubtedly, oth the government and its people. Without the guidance of policies made by the government, people could not have scored many achievements. Without its people's effects, China could not have delevopped so quickly. JCL, do you ever hear of Manifesto of the Communist Party? It is written by Carl Marx and Engels. Carl Marx's masterpiece is Capital.
