When the waitress ask them to order the dishes, they can not Chinese menu. This is a simple menu. Can you read it? Dōng guā dùn pái gǔ 冬瓜炖排骨 Wax gourd stewed with pork ribs Jiǔ cài chăo jī dàn 韭菜炒鸡蛋 Fragrant-flowered garlic fried with egg Líng yú yóu mài cài 鲮鱼油麦菜 Canned fish fried with green leafy vegetables Qīng chăo yě mù ěr 清炒野木耳 Stir-fried wild edible black fungus Hēi hú jiāo niú liǔ 黑胡椒牛柳 Beef fried with black pepper Huáng guā chăo ròu piàn 黄瓜炒肉片 Sliced meat fried with cucumber Xiā rén chăo yóu cài 虾仁炒油菜 Shrimp meat fried with green leafy vegetables Zhàn jiàng huáng guā duàn 沾酱黄瓜段 Cold cucumber slices with thick sauce

Dōng guā dùn pái gǔ
冬瓜炖排骨
Wax gourd stewed with pork ribs

Jiǔ cài chăo jī dàn
韭菜炒鸡蛋
Fragrant-flowered garlic fried with egg

Líng yú yóu mài cài
鲮鱼油麦菜
Canned fish fried with green leafy vegetables

Qīng chăo yě mù ěr
清炒野木耳
Stir-fried wild edible black fungus

Hēi hú jiāo niú liǔ
黑胡椒牛柳
Beef fried with black pepper

Huáng guā chăo ròu piàn
黄瓜炒肉片

Hi BBQQ! I am very glad I stumbled on your thread. I hope you post some more because I am preparing for my next trip. When I was in Beijing, I had a hard time ordering food at the restaurants. The receptionists couldn't understand me. When they finally realized I was asking for a menu, they gave me a completely Chinese menu. Wah! No pictures! LOL I was thinking of just running my fingers on it and just point and see what I get but I decided not to.

They couldn't even understand me when I said "Coke". Turns out they call it cola in China. ^_^"

Jiǔ cài chăo jī dàn sounds good. ;-)
