A recent study found that obesity in childhood will substantially increase future risk of heart attack and other cardiac events, media reported Thursday.

The study published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that the greater the increase in the children's weight, the higher their risk of suffering heart disease in their future life.

The study also said that the obesity ratio would increase by 5 to 12 percent for the boys who are overweight now and 2 to 12 percent for the girls by 2020 in the United States, which means more heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure at a younger age.

"If we don't take steps to reverse course, the children of each successive generation seem destined to be fatter and sicker than their parents," said David Ludwig of Children's Hospital Boston in a commentary in the New England Journal of Medicine.

More than 9 million children in the United States are overweight now, and by 2035, the prevalence of heart disease will have increased by 5 to 16 percent, researchers estimated.

"My colleagues and I have predicted that pediatric obesity may shorten life expectancy in the United States by 2 to 5 years by mid-century -- an effect equal to that of all cancers combined," said Ludwig.

Pediatric obesity is also a severe problem in China. Nowadays, China's doting parents fed their kids too much nutrition. Love your kids but love needs moderation.

Today's children don't do enough excercise, too many play computer games etc.
I'm overweight myself, but when I was young I would be playing football, rugby and cricket, I would nagged that I was never in long enough to do my homework.

Westnor,

(((I'm overweight myself, but when I was young I would be playing football, rugby and cricket, I would nagged that I was never in long enough to do my homework.)))

Reading your input, I just happen to speculate about the adults around the fat kids.
most fat kids are surround by fat people as close family, more over you stated that as a young man you used to do al kind of sports and so you avoided been fat.
However, now day’s reality is that you are Quote, (I'm overweight myself).
My question is how can we help the children with obesities and make them understand, that we need to be healthy and teach them so, if the adults are fat.
So you have a 300 pounds teacher, teaching eating habits to children, children are very smart, and by not means stupid.
As I read here on this very forum many times over, a lot of blame the others but me individuals, preach how much they dislike the presence of KFC or McDonalds in China, “because of the health treat that these fast food outlets represent to people”.
In other words, they are the warriors that pretend to rescue China from the enemy, (FAT).
I do not think that nor are KFC or McDonalds bad, what is bad, is the lack of self-control on the adult population of the west mainly.
Obesity is the byproduct of unrestrained behavior in the adult population.
As Chinese society is getting wealthier, they will follow the western behavior, of excesses too.
Not because the western behavior is always necessarily, better.
But because it is the one different option to the old Chinese socialistic doctrine of austerity and self restrain; self implemented by the limited availability of goods.
To finish my speculative entry, I suggest, that as long as we have fat adults, there will always sadly be fat children, “healthy looking” fat sick children.

To answer you there JC, I was always overweight even when I was younger, I was lucky we didn't have the KFC's or McDonalds in the UK when I was growing up, they only started in the UK in the 1970's, my down fall was the good old British Fish and Chips and drinking beer, once I was forced to give sport through injury at only 25 the weight piled on, although I eat a lot more healthy now and drink a hell of a lot less the weight is hard to shift.
My daughter is not showing any signs of being overweight though, she hates McDonalds and only eats KFC now and again, she is very active and is working towards representing Britain at the 2012 Olympics, time will tell if she makes it.

Westn,
I request for forgiveness, I never intended to make this a question about you, but of course, I used your words or writings to frame my answer.
I intended to focus my reply on society it self, instead of you and or by no means your child.
By the way, I sincerely hope she can be successful on her quest.
