China has imported many things from western culture. Of course, some aspects of western culture are positive to China. Meanwhile, Chinese culture has also lost many of its distinctive flavors. For instance, China's traditional family value is disappearing. What are your views on the contemproary Chinese culture? Can you give more examples about the westernization of Chinese culture?

Chinese cities are very westernlike. Shops sell western brands for high cost. I (only) imagine city people with good income buy western products, others does not. Does that from its own part lead to westernization? I would think so, but who knows? I have very litte experienced Chinese living, so I am not capable to give any real opinion to Your guestion, Katrina. Carlos

It depends on your definition of Western culture as each Western countries culture is quite different. I suspect that you mean the Americanization of China. But surly if a value is worth keeping by the majority such as family values, it will continue? Dodger.

A lot of Chinese are very skilled businessmen. China has traded with countries near and far for centuries so they are not alien to commercialism. I would say commercialism is something inherent to them. In my observation, the very obvious western adaptations they have these days is the love for branded and fashion items. This struck me particularly because I am not a fashion bug and I never understood the allure of carrying a Louis Vuitton or Gucci. It was very evident when I was in Beijing. That is just my observation. I think a native Chinese is more qualified to answer this. ^_^

Chinese culture is becoming too western? On the other hand, can it be that western culture is becoming too Chinese?

We are now living in a scientific world. Latest technology closes the people world wide. So we are watching the world more closely. (This is for those people understand my 3 sentences). May be 80 percent of world population can't understand these 3 sentence: this means they are beyond the scientific world. (Till now) We are talking about Chinese culture motivation specially to being westernization in front of computer. So have a limitation of thinking. I guess less than 1% people being adopting other culture with respect to total population of China.

The entire world has become Americanized. Traveling was much more fun when I could bring back gifts for friends that could only be found in that country. For the most part, if you can buy it in China you can buy it in the USA...and it will have a barcode on it.

It was the other way around for me. It took me months to figure out what gifts to bring to my Chinese friends. I couldn’t find anything that’s not Made in China. I was like, ok, so I can give this to them but it says Made in China. That means I’m just bringing it back. >_<

Precisely my point, SHESGOTTOBE...in reverse...and I've struggled with the same issue when bringing gifts to China. :-)
