How to cope with Asian-Style Squat toilet?

GUEST24125 The reason for the paper's being thrown away rather than flushed doesn't have anything to do with the amount of water available. It's actually because most of the septic systems associated with the squat toilets aren't really capable of handling a lot of paper without clogging. So throwing it away just helps prevent an unpleasant backup.

lol, As my trip to Zhanjiang loomed closer,i mentally prepared for the occasion, the brief moment that i would have to use the dreaded squat toilet.

Thankfully the hotel i initially stayed at had sit downs, although they were half the height of the ones back home. During the day, number ones quite easily accomplished in squat types aorund the city. No two's saved for the hotel, lol, easier to read the travel guide don't you know.
Morning mantra;
Mentally prepared and with numerous packets of various sized tissue packs in my day bag i felt totally prepared. Mentally calculating sheets per pack and the what if's.
What if i got the trots from something that didnt agree with my fragile western stomach etc etc. Better pack more tissue just in case, hahaha.

For the last week i home stayed with a chinese family, they were quite well off by chinese standards and had built a 7 storey family apartment block. Even though this was built in the last year,it featured ,squat toilet cum shower cubicle or was it vice versa,in all apartments. This provided my hosts with much amusement as i tried to explain the immense time saving available by being able to use the toilet and have a shower at the same time. As i read in a thread, the only downside was the constant vigil required so as not to slip into the gaping toilet bowl while showering.
For me this was a minor part of my stay in a wonderful city and country.
Many more wonderful memories will stay with me for life.

I traveled throught out Russia a few years ago and squat toilets are quite widespread there as well. The eye forever searching for Mac Donalds and sit down loo's.
Be Prepared,travellers motto.

Destruckdoz

Reading your last entry has left a puzzled expression on my face. I would love you to explain why out of all the places you have been to in China, Foshan is your favourite (note the correct spelling there!) one to stay? Is it because the only other place you have been to is Linfen (the world's most polluted city)?

Being serious, I am really interested to know your reasons.

No practice,just remember the mantra.
That was one of the better, cleaner ones visited, still no paper. The toilet block was actually built to blend in to the area.Located at the Huguangyan Maar Volcano Lake park, approx 35 klms outside Zhanjiang city. The volcanic lake i believe is one of only three of this type in the world due to the way it was formed.

Maybe they should have them in oz to save you guys the pain of getting bitten by red backs.
I was also worried about slipping while having a shower.

Squat toilets...they look "cool". Maybe I should attempt to install one in the house for wife. And maybe by next week I would be on the streets looking for another place to live.

I don't understand my original thread "How to cope with Asian-Style Squat toilet?" was modified by the admin here. I mentioned one interesting article on my post:
http://ChinaTravelGuide.com/ctgwiki/Restrooms_and_Asian-Style_Squat_Toilets on ChinaTravelGuide.com (maybe it's the name too similar to this site?)
