GUEST47329 I got a green card with out any major problem, but it does require a lot of paper work which took me a couple of years to finally gather it all. I read you can also qualify for local medical health coverage, pension, fund and matching house fund.... has anyone tried that?

GUEST06797 My wife is Chinese. I have a green card. No big deal. I went to the immigration office, (Entry and Exit Bureau). I was in China for 5-years at the time. I got the card in about 7-months. I own a home and we have a child together in China. The card is good anywhere in China and that includes at airports, hotels, etc.

I have NOT tried that. I renounced my US citizenship and got my Chinese green card BEFORE THAT. I will eventually apply for Chinese citizenship. Right now I am in China for life on my green card. It is not as hard as some people make it out to be. As I said earlier, in my case it took about 7-months. I fly on it, work on it, stay in hotels on it and open bank accounts with it. Its just as good as a regular Chinese ID card in many respects. The only issue I have encountered sometimes is people at the airport for example never saw one and then I stand there waiting for police to confirm it. (In China on domestic flights.) I do still need to get a work authorization for any employment in China though, FEC, which may not apply in all areas, but in my area I needed that. Also if I move I must register with police the same as anyone without a green card. The BIG issue is that I don't need a damn visa anymore which saves money and time. If you are sick of the USA, and you have investments in China, a family, a home, etc...its worth getting one. The fee was 1500 RMB. I hope that helps.

The concept of a 'green card' is misleading. Most people who get permission to work in China do so on a year by year basis. A criminal record, if declared could prevent you from getting the work visa. The respondents who are married and stayed in China for 5 years plus are a special case and only a minority will go this path.

Interesting reading the previous post: renounced US citizenship but doesn't have Chinese citizenship....that would make you stateless. And I'm not convinced you can get Chinese citizenship...but I hope you are right! :)

If you truly renounced your American citizenship and are not yet a Chinese citizen, doesn't it make your life difficult? For example, you no longer possess a passport and therefore can not travel internationally. You also receive no consular support in China.

Apault--
What exactly do you mean when you say the concept of a "green card" is misleading? In the US, a green card is lawful permanent residency (immigration). I believe the people posting questions on this forum about the Chinese green card are interested in permanent residency, which is possible, though not exactly popular. They want to reside here indefinitely, and are not, as you suggest, simply seeking permission to visit or work.

As there are more and more expat-local unions here, the demand for Chinese green cards will rise.

I am a commercial pilot and I would like to shift to china and work there as a commercial pilot as china will require a lot of pilots in the future. I am an indian citizen and I hold a commercial pilot's license from USA and India. Can anyone advise me about getting a chinese green card?? How likely it is that my application will be rejected??
