Why do we prefer to buy luxuries?

What kind of life are you dreaming of? To wear Gucci coat, Channel diamond ring, Dior perfume, drive a sports car and live in a villa? This is the most luxurious life. At present, young boys and girls are very fond of those luxuries. Even those salariats perfer to spend a month's salary to buy a luxury. Why do we prefer to buy luxuries? For their best qualities? For the brand? Or just to satisfy your vanity? What is luxury? They will tell you that luxury is a kind of art. Really?

Owning brand name, so called "luxury goods" is a phase that immature consumers in immature economies must pass through before they learn that ownership of these goods does not bestow happiness, health, beauty, long life blah blah blah...Anyway, in China, you can get "real" immitation brand name products for a fraction of the real cost, so go ahead, boys and girls, knock yourselves out.

I think many people believe that possessing brand name goods show their status, but that is only effective if the people around them care about status also, so it is a vicious cycle, feeding on each other. It doesn’t have an effect on people who don’t care about status. But I am a believer in freedom to do your own thing, so if it is one’s fancy to collect branded goods, so be it. However, I don’t think it is a good yardstick to measure people with.

What kind of life am I dreaming of? A life of peace and quiet, good health and relationships, where I can do whatever I want to do whenever I want to do it. Sleep when I want to sleep, read when I want to read, travel when I want to travel, cook when I want to cook, eat when I want to eat, spend time with family, friends and loved ones when I want to. To me, that is heaven. ^_^

luxury is a kind of art? I can't understand it. Perhaps, I am too stupid. If you have enough money to burn, just burn it. If not, better be practical and not follow the trend. No matter what a beggar wears, he still is a beggar. Just choose what you like and make sure that you can afford it.
