A footballers career is only a short one, only goalkeepers seem to go on longer.
This is why we don't complain too much about how much they are paid.
Ronaldo will no doubt live a comfortable life in retirement should his career be over.

You are right, Alan. According to the news, Raul and Iker Casillas Fernández just signed their new contracts with Real Madrid. Raul will play for Real Madrid till 2011 and Casillas 2017. Raul is already 30 years old. He might retire from football in Real Madrid.
