![]() | Most tennis fans must be familiar with Steffi Graf, a legend of Women's tennis. She once won 22 Grand Slams (Women's Singles) and 1 Grand Slam (Women's Doubles). Those who know Steffi Graf must also know Monica Seles. In 1993, Monica Seles was stabbed in the back during a match in Hamburg, Germany. It is said that the assassinator was a fan for Graf. Frightened by this, Seles hadn't appeared on the tennis court for two years. In the second half of 1995, she came back. In 1996, she won her nineth Grand Slam in Australia. In 2003 French Open, she suffered from a foot injury. From then on, she almost missed all professional tennis matches. Right now, this genius tennis players declared to rerire from tennis on Thursday. Good luck to her! Seles' Grand Slams: 1990: French Open 1991: Australian Open, French Open and US Open 1992: Australian Open, French Open and US Open 1993: Australian Open 1996: Australian Open |

![]() | Actually, I am not familiar with Seles. Talking about the 'voice' on tennis court, Sharapova is very famous for her shouts. If you watch the match between Henin and her during 2008 Australian Open, you will know how powerful her voice is. |

![]() | >>What a crazy fan! I just want to know how Graf commented on this matter.<< Although Graf was a great player, she benefitted at Seles' expense from the tragic stabbing incident in 1993. Seles was dominating Graf at the time of the stabbing and Graf went on to win 11 more Grand Slams (a total of 22) after the unfortunate incident. The stabbing has left a question mark in the minds of many tennis fans, as to how many more slams Graf would have won had Seles not been stabbed. I was a big fan of Seles and enjoyed watching her play even more than Graf. |

I have this question in my mind too, CANADAGUY. Suppose she wasn't stabbed, do you thnk that she was possible to win more Grand Slams than Graf? "I was a big fan of Seles and enjoyed watching her play even more than Graf." Canadaguy, why do you enjoy watching her matches? Frankly speaking, she was not as beautiful as Graf. |

Suppose she wasn't stabbed, do you thnk that she was possible to win more Grand Slams than Graf? << I'm not sure whether she could have won more slams than Steffi but Steffi's Slam total would definitely have been a lot less. Most of the slams that Steffi would have lost would likely have gone to Seles so their totals would have been pretty close in number. Don't forget Seles didn't play for two years after the incident. She was at her peak then and didn't participate in eight potential slam wins. >> "I was a big fan of Seles and enjoyed watching her play even more than Graf." Canadaguy, why do you enjoy watching her matches? Frankly speaking, she was not as beautiful as Graf.<< Good question. I agree that Graf was much more attractive to watch on the tennis courts than Seles. But the reason I enjoyed watching Seles' matches more than Graf's was because of her technique and personality. Sele's ground strokes were unparalleled at the time. No one hit as well off both sides (forehand and backhand), with such depth and power. Her serve and her volleying weren't her strong points but she didn't really need to rely on them to win matches. Graf on the other hand had one big weapon; her forehand. Her serve was pretty good but not a major weapon. Her speed on the court was a big advantage, particularly from side to side. Graf's backhand on the other hand was not anywhere near the quality of Seles'. Graf used a slice backhand most of the time, which was not as effective a weapon as her topspin forehand. Seles could create amazing angles with her shots off both sides of the court. In addition, because of her bubbly personality and wit, Seles was always a pleasure to listen to in interviews after her matches. She would often giggle out of nervousness, particularly when she was still a teenager, but when she spoke she was in full command of the answers and always had interesting responses to the questions. It really is a pity how things turned out for her career. At her prime I believe she was more talented than Graf. |
