When interviewed by Newsnight, Bill Gates announced that he would donate all his property------58 million dollars to a charity foundation without leaving one penny to his son and daughter. He said that he and his wife made this decision together. In the interview, he also admits that all corporations will be replaced and MS is no exception. Gates also made a very important decision that he would retire from MS thoroughly. What will he do after retirement? After retiring, he still spends a day in his Redmond office working for MS. Then he spends the rest days to work for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

His value is more than just $58 million. His house alone costs almost $100 million. Bill Gates is worth billions. There was a time when the economy was at its peak when he was worth almost $100 billion and announced that he and Melinda would just leave $200 million to their children and give the rest away.

The charity is probably the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. I wouldn't be surprised if his kids are given positions as paid directors of the board.

Gates used to be accused for his stingy and he refuted that he creates millions of jobs in soft tech areas for US and that is the most substantially material contributions and the biggest philanthropist, He is right. Hope the endowment left for his children won't jeopardize the potential talents of the children because wealth is double-edged.

Hehe, he is still very rich. It is reported that he has spent 100 million yuan to rent a "house" in Beijing to watch the Olympics. Standing in front of the window, he can see the "water cube" and "bird nest" clearly.

Yea, Bill Gates is known for being stingy. There was a time when he was already a billionaire and he was still flying on economy seats, not business or first class. After a few years though, he gave in and bought his own air transportation.

There was even an anecdote about him buying ice cream and looking for a coupon in his pocket. O_o

Zoey, it was fake news. The manager of MS in China has said that Bill Gates won't spend 100 million yuan to rent a house for watching Olympic matches.

SHESGOTTOBE, maybe he just thought that all his money were not won easily. I have seen such guys too. They just look like ordinary people but actually they are very rich.

"After a few years though, he gave in and bought his own air transportation."

Well, I am wondering if he will come to China to watch Beijing Olympic Games via his air transport.

No matter how people envy him and were always trying to find bad things about him (normal human reaction I guess; envy is in each of us), Gates is a very honorable man. We should have the utmost respect for men like him; we need more like him! Here's an interesting interview where he explains his decision:

http://abcnews.go.com/ThisWeek/GlobalHealth/story?id=1286093

Do you know Warren E. Buffett? --> the chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. and one of the world's wealthiest men, plans to donate the bulk of his $44 billion fortune to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and four other philanthropies. See here:

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/26/business/26buffett.html

Just these two men alone will change the life of a big part of humanity; many will be saved from diseases, poverty and lack of food.
I just hope that people will stop trying to say bad thing about great people like them..

The no money for his children is kind of an 'utopie' [French word for ~ joke]; when you own a 100 million $ house by the sea, blieve me that he has a few penny saved on the side to maintain it; his kids future are very well garanteed and there is no doubt to have about that...

It's not a bad thing to make a difference. Money used wisely will help a lot of people. Isn't it great to be in a position where you can make a big difference? Not a lot of people have that opportunity. Plus, they know they will be leaving a legacy that will live long after they are gone.
