How does octopus taste? Never tasted before. It is my first time to make octopus.

Materials: 350 grams octopus, 1/2 green pepper, 1/2 red pepper, 1/2 tablespoon minced garlic, 1/2 tablespoon ginger.

Marinade: 2 tablespoons rice wine, 1/5 white pepper powder, 1/3 tablespoon salt, 1/2 tablespoon minced ginger and 1/2 tablespoon minced garlic.

Seasonings: 1 tablespoon edible oil, 2 tablespoons seafood soy sauce, 3 tablespoons ketchup, 3 tablespoons vinegar, 1 tablespoon white sugar, 1/2 sesame oil.

Step 1 Wash octopus and cut it into shreds, mix them with 2 tablespoons rice wine, 1/5 tablespoon white pepper powder, 1/3 tablespoon salt, 1/2 tablespoon minced garlic, 1/2 tablespoon minced ginger very well. Then marinade for 30 minutes.

Step 2 Mince ginger, garlic, red and green pepper and put them all in a bowl.

Step 3 Quick-boil octopus in boiling water for 10 or 15 seconds.

Step 4 Pre-heat 1 tablespoon edible oil, stir-fry minced garlic and ginger, add minced red and green pepper in and stir-fry them together. Finally add 3 cups water and boil the mixture.

Step 5 Add 2 tablespoons seafood soy sauce, 3 tablespoons ketchup, 3 tablespoons vinegar, 1 tablespoon white sugar, 1/2 tablespoon sesame oil in to make sauce.

Step 6 Pour the sauce over the octopus.

It's a different proposition when the octopus weighs a couple of kilos! My son aged about 8 brought a live one home one morning and waved it my face - I was still in bed! his main comment was, you have to stab it between the eyes! Some knowledgeable locals tenderise it by beating it against the rocks for ten minutes. Then it is almost possible to chew!


Octopus is a regular item around the Mediterranean countries: in Greece it is often dry roasted / bbq'd and served as a snack with a drink. Delicious.

I just had dry roasted squid. It tastes good. For octopus, never eat it before.

I have had octupus several times, it tastes good as long as its not overcooked
