Those who wanna taste Beijing roast duck might not have it in Britain!

According to Dailymail, Beijing Roast Duck might be banned to sell in GB due to a ban made by EU. That ban orders that all ovens should carry on a CE (Conformité Européenne) mark, meaning the equipment meets safety standards on carbon-monoxide emissions laid down by Brussels. It is said that about ten restaurants in London have been affected.

A council spokesman said: 'If the restaurants want to continue cooking ducks in the traditional manner they will need to get new ovens which will comply with EU standards by having CE marking.'

I suppose they are right about the standards, but the EU do talk a load of rubbish at times.
Roast duck is one of my favourites.

Well, I don't like Beijing roast duck because they are too oily. A report said that Quan Qude (a famous restaurant in Beijing) once decided to use electric oven to make roast duck. Finally, they gave up their idea. Why? Many people objected because they thought that the roast duck made in electric oven were not as good as that made in the traditional oven. Some even said that those roast duck made in electric oven shouldn't be called Beijing Roast duck.

Thus, I am afraid if the same thing will happen in GB.

Another example of how pathetic the EU can be. Instead of bans why dont they make the restaurants put up a sign saying whether or not their methods and ovens conform to the standards and let us as customers decide if we want to eat it.

Well, I guess the sliced mutton barbecue will banned too if it has introduced in Europe.

There was a similar issue in Australia too (well in NSW, but probably the other states too). The health regulations say that once cooked food must either be stored below 4C or above 70C, so allowing it to hang in the traditional way is not permitted. Persoanally I can't see the problem if it is sold within a few hours. Anyway we go over the top with hygene in the west so that we end up with little protection in our guts. I often had stomach upsets when i first came to China, but now I have very few.
