Do you know Lang Ping? Once she helped Chinese women’s volleyball team to win five consecutive World Champions. Right now, she is the coach of American women’s volleyball team. On August 15th, a war between Chinese and American women’s volleyball teams will be staged. Hearing this, some Chinese people are dissatisfied with Lang Ping. They say that she should help America to defeat her mother land. Why can’t she coach Chinese women’s volleyball team? Some guys even warn that Lang Ping shouldn’t forget that she is still a Chinese.

When interviewed, Lang Ping said that it was her honour to coach American women’s volleyball team. At least, it suggested that Chinese volleyball was very strong. Otherwise, American wouldn’t invite a Chinese coach to train their volleyball team. Cuba and China both had won many World Champions. Why didn’t US invite a Cuban coach? It means that America had accepted that Chinese women’s volleyball was

I'm pretty sure they didnt know that America is a melting pot. Whether we like it or not, this is the future of the world. People will have to learn and accept each other and be respectful of their decisions. Even though there are some exceptions, particularly those who are *cough* racists, generally, America doesn't care where you are from. The only question is, 'can you do the job?'

Come on! Don't be so narrow-minded. If China was really beaten by America, that would be no big deal. It just shows that Lang Ping is a great coach. We should be proud of her. Don't forget that China has also invited many foreign coaches.

GUEST87953 What about Liang Chow (Liang Qiao)? He was so happy when the American gymnstics performed and held the gymnats with such passion. What is the difference between her and Xiao Shan Zhi Li, the tratitor that was so happy when she defeated China on behalf of Japan? I just think the Olympics will become meaningless if any coach and player can just play for any country; isn't it supposed to be a competition between countries? If you say the Olympics is just for love of the games, why not play in your backyard and why bother spending so much money on the Oympics? Also, shouldn't there be sth like intellectual property rights in a coach and player's skills that they learned from their motherland? We even have non-compete clause in our contract for stinky office jobs. There are more than 10 countries in this year's Oympics that use either ex Chinese coaches and/or players. Would you feel a sense of satisfaction if Kobe Brant played for the Chinese team and China won b/c of him? I would not b/c China did not contribute to the success and thus did not win. We would have a real win when our players become good enough and our own players get the gold for us. Go China!

I am so impressed by the passion of your post, Guest87953. It used to be that players only play for their country. Gone were those days. This is the era of globalization and yes, it is allowed. They are not really violating any rules here. Most countries in the world respect personal decisions. Most countries do not act like they own the person. Some people may not like the decision but respect it anyway. There are many Americans who are playing/coaching for other countries. We do not see them as traitors. No, we want them to play where they are happy. We want them to chase their dreams.

Don't get me started on intellectual property rights. LOL!

After the "Peace War" between China and US, many Chinese dislike Lang Ping because the US defeated China in that match. Some Chinese even call Lang Ping a "traitor". At the news conference, Lang Ping didn't speak in Chinese but in English. Why? She is the coach of the US. As a coach, she is successful too. Actually, many Chinese go abroad to be coaches or athletes in foreign countries. It is understandable. In China, they have few opportunities because there are many "elites".

Do you know Liu Guodong and Tang Na? Liu Guodong is the brother of Liu Guoliang who is the coach of Chinese men's table tennis team. Now Liu Guodong is the coach of Singaporean women's table tennis team. As a coach, he has made great success too. He led Singapore to the final of Women's Group although they were defeated by China. No one blamed him and no one called him a traitor. Why? Because Chinese people don't worry that Chinese athletes will lose. As for Tang Na, she played table tennis for the South Korea. She said that she just wanted to play table tennis. In China, the competition is too fierce so that she went to South Korea. Perhaps, He Zhili is the best example. After getting married with a Janpanese, she changed her name and played table tennis for Japan. In 1994, She beat Qiao Hong and Deng Yaping and claimed the champion of the Asian Games. After that match, she became the "Chinese traitor" in most Chinese people's eyes. Till now, she hasn't been forgiven by Chinese people.

Why can't Chinese people become more generous? Before blaming those athletes or coaches, we should think about ourselves first. We, Chinese also invite many foreign coaches to China to train our athletes. Did you know Zhong Man, the one who won the gold medal of Men's saber fencing. His coach is a French. So far, we haven't read any reports that blame this French as a "traitor".

Thus, be rational about this phenomenon. On the other hand, we should think about why there are many Chinese athletes go abroad to play games. Tang Na once said that there was something wrong with the system of choosing athletes. In China, she has no opportunity to attend in the matches. She said that there were 2 table tennis teams (first rate and second rate). In total, about 50 table tennis players. Only five players represent China to play table tennis and the rest are their "training mates". She didn't want to be the training mate forever so she went to South Korea.

He Zhili (Left) and Tang Na (right).

Note: Why was the match between China and US called "He Ping Da Zhan (Peace War)"? You see, He (Cheng ZhongHe, the coach of Chinese women's volleyball team) plus Ping (Lang Ping) equals "He Ping". So here is "He Ping Da Zhan--Peace War".

By the way, some people have showed their worry about Lang Ping. They worry that Lang Ping will become another He Zhili.
