GUEST17252,

"i hope its just looks amazing and is really clever not cheesy and doesnt put england too shame. "

Why don't you have much confidence in your country? You are unsatisfied with the eight minute's performance. In China, a number of people think that London's 8-minute-performance is good since the performance presents the civillian culture of London. I have heard that a majority of British despises the 8-minute performance at the closing ceremony of Beijing Olympics.

Yes, 99% of British people are ashamed to be British after that terrible performance. Incidentally I have yet to meet a Chinese person who understood it (or a Brit for that matter) or thought it was good. A few people have said they liked it (which is very different from saying it was good) but they are only trying to be nice. I think we should just be honest about it - it was terrible.

GUEST1301 It was a messy performance. When the red bus pulled over, all the passengers rushed into the door at the same time. Don't they know lining up is of civility?

GUEST71156 The British has everything to show in 2012 that will dwarf the Chinese. U.K., a country of fewer than 61 million people has accomplished A LOT, in comparison to the billion plus Chinese, and I am not talking about the Beatles. The influence of the British accomplishment is a lot greater than the Chinese. For example, Hong Kong and Singapore, being influenced by Britain, are the exemplary countries in Asia for their achievements. The achievements of Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle alone are beyond comparison. What did China contribute to the world in the last few centuries? So, instead of thinking about what the British cannot do, think about what the British can do, and the answers are all there.

GUEST31190 You do know that this is the British Olympics.
Not the English Olympics.

Speaking as a proud Scot with Irish and English background. I think we need to include the whole history of the UK in these games.
We people in this tiny Island have acomplished so much throughout history. And we have much to be proud of.

As for the Chinese and their 5,000 years of history. We could bloody well easily match that.
Why not showcase our beautiful indigenous languages, song, dance, folklore. Ancient mythology.
Colonial history ofcourse too, it can't be forgotton.

Unlike China Britain has a multi-cultural society, wave after wave of imigration has seen us transform into such an amazing country. Asian, African, Continental European and all.

Now I'm not comparing China and the UK at all. I'm just saying there are really big differences in our countries and within our people.
