![]() | Did you notice how those Olympic champions celebrate their victory? If you noticed their guestures, you would find that they almost do the same guesture no matter they are oriental or western people, blind or sighted. All of them show their pride in this way: head tilted back, chest puffed out and arms in the air. This is the result of a survey conducted by two researchers Jessica Tracy of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver,Canada, and David Matsumoto of San Francisco State University. After analysing several photographs of judo competitions in the 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games, they found that the sighted and blind athletes do very similar guestures when they win or lose their matches. ![]() |

![]() | But it is a gesture of the times. %o years ago we were much more restrained in our elation, it wasn't considered good manners to yell and scream. The US male swimmers behaviour was definitely uncouth. As the richest nation with a vast expenditure on their sport and training they should be embarrassed to be shouting, but show some humility towards the efforts of the lesser nations. Isn't that what the Olympics is SUPPOSED to be about???? |

![]() | Heh. I don’t know which one is worse, screaming at the top of your lungs because you’ve won after being behind in the last few seconds of the race... or making comments like ‘we will smash them like guitars’ and then mocking your opponents by playing air guitars after you’ve won the gold medal. “The Americans? We're going to smash them. That's what we came here for.” ~~ Alain Bernard Nice. This and some idiotic fans of varying shapes & sizes are precisely why I am not exactly crazy about sports. |
