After 30 years in broadcasting, my American English is absent most of the regionalisms common to different parts of the USA. (Can you see me fishing for a teaching job in China? ;-) ) However, more important than the absence of regionalisms in speech - as JABAROOTOO rightly pointed out - is good enunciation, proper vocabulary and elocution.

Jabarootoo is right about the different regional accents here in the UK, even though I have lived in London for the last 13 years my Somerset accent is still there, no way could I talk like our Queen.

It's funny, I was married to an Australian for 7 years, and visited often, and did find a lot of self centeredness. There is still a lot of fighting in pubs, and the like, which honestly,I drive a truck in America, and go to many dives, and don't see much rabble rousing any more, going to Australia, can be like stepping back in time, although by no means do I insinuate all Australians are like this. Also there is a lot of anti Brit, anti Americanism, more of a competitiveness than a downright distain though.

It's funny that when my Australian ex wife, and my friend that grew up in Boston spoke, how similar the to dialects are, I would never have thought so until hearing them speak together. She was always relieved to talk to people in boston, because they never had to ask her what she was saing haha.

GUEST20113 language is very important ...........just like food or shelter........or culture. If u live in England or british colonies u would prefer speaking in british accent; if u live in USA you would rather speak engish in american accent.
