I think Dodge and Seth are with Conservatives. I didn't watch the debate between Mccain and Obama. However, I heard one word from McCain saying that he plans how to create money but Obama plans how to spend money in social security net. . I can imagine that if Obama made it, USA would be a slow and old nation where a mom with 3 children can live on childcare benefits instead of be a working mom. So I don't want to see the latter to take the office in the White House

MARRIE,
The fact has disappointed you. Now, there is a belief that Obama Administration is seen as "the third term of Clinton Administration". In Clinton Administration, America experienced almost a -decade-long economic boom. When Bush took the helm of the White House, American economy was downhill. Bush was recently rated as the worst uS president in the past 60 years. Bush left a mess-up to Obama.

GUEST14469 Like any other systems or "-isms", Capitalism is not alone, has its inherent problems. Democracy provides the safety valve for those problems, so that they don't bottle up and explode. Again democracy has its problems as well, nothing is ever perfect.

The question is now, not whether Capitalism is dead, is whether the new leader elected through democracy ( allowing the transition of power through open and fair elections) can fashion a better set of laws for capitalism to go forward. History has shown thae Democracy is a resilient system, so has Capitalism, they are both self refreshable.

Dictatorship, on the other hand, relies on a single person or party to keep things going in a closed, secretive system, beatified by propaganda, lies and spins. History has not been kind to Dictatorship driven systems, Nazi, Soviet Union, Sadam Hussien are good examples.

Remember nothing is ever perfect, whether a system is good or bad, can be judged by how resilient it is, how relevant it is to protecting our rights.

I have to respectfully disagree with Guest7360: capitalism, in rationale form, works fine. But the greed and stupidity that ruined the economic sector by destroying the housing market through poorly structured loans was an outgrowth of the Clinton years and Barney Frank and Chris Dodd; it had nothing to do with capitalism.

There have been 15 recessions since the Great Depression, and capitalism (human innovation and hard work) has helped the recovery each time. With Obama and his despotic socialist agenda, the USA might not recover for a long time. Quadrupling the deficit is insane; socialized medicine (see the UK and Canada) is insane; killing investors and favoring unions is insane. Over-regulation leads to zero growth and zero incentive.

I'm a Jeffersonian at heart I suppose: fear your government! Any government strong enough to GIVE you everything is also strong enough to TAKE IT AWAY.

I am really worried about the next 4 years.

Haha Seth, I think marrie is right. After reading your post, I strongly believed that you are a conservative (Marrie also seem to be pro-republicans). You are a republican? You have no confidence in Obama. At present, I am just surprised that US citizens could't cross the party line after the election is done. You have biased opinon (prejudice) on Democrats. Were it better if John McCain was elected as President of USA? What if John McCain follow his predecessor W Bush's guideline?

McCain is too old to take the adventure. Unfortunately, there is no younger republican who is couragerous enough to stand out to clear out the shit.

GUEST6349 There is a doggerel on the internet: “ in 1949, only Socialism could save China. In 1989, only China could save Socialism; In 2009, only China can save Capitalism.” Since Obama took office, USA has been on the way to a socialist country. Only socialism can save USA?

As a host of popular Shanghai talk show said, from financial and economic developemnt perspective, US get adult disease that infant or child is impossible to have, it's like that children or infants are unlikely to have venereal disease.

Marrie, nice input! I like this analogy. Compared with USA, China remains an infant or child in terms of financial and economic power despite of its rapid growth in the recent years. China's market economy is far from mature. There are still relatively too much state interference in the economy. Well, generally, I think China's 'socialism' (Socialism with Chinese Characteristics) have been working well over the 30 years. I have heard that the West nicknamed " China's theory of buidling socialism with Chinese characteristics" as "Neo-capitalism. Admittedly, China has learnt a lot from the West and Capitalism. China deserves much credit for its fast lasting economic growth. Therefore, the two systems both have their frailties and imperfections; and both have their advantages that the other should learn from. I think USA(Obama) has become well-conscious of this point, hence its "Change" catchphrase. Right, China is an infant, but infant signifies hope and future.
