On the fifteenth day of Chinese New Year, probably the final day of the festival, the Hokkien in Malaysia celebrate this occasion as Chap Goh Mei (the word chap goh means 15 in Hokkien dialect). In those early days, the Hokkiens celebrated this with lots of firecrackers, tanglung (lanterns), etc.

Is the 15th day/night of the Chinese New Year being celebrated in mainland China? How do you celebrate Chap Goh Mei (or whatever name you call it)?

In China, the festival is called "the Lantern Festival". It falls on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. The colorful lanterns and fireworks are displayed at that night. We eat Yuan Xiao or Tangyuan (balls of glutinous rice) on that day. Yuan Xiao usually has the fillings of sesame, peanuts, vegetable or meat. The ball shape symbolizes reunion and wholeness.
