Time again for an overseas Chinese to do his pilgrimage to motherland... hahahhah. I am a history freak...anyone gone to Sanxingdui lately? It is not featured in most travel itinerary. Would it be far apart from most of the 'must-see' places in Sichuan, eg, leshan, juizhaigou...etc,. Please respond. thanks.

I went 2 Octobers ago. It's reachable from Chengdu -- we combined it in the same day with the panda reserve.

Hi! Eyllse... Thanks for the answer. Your assistance the last time to Xian (i think) was great. Btw, Sichuan is safe to go now right? I am hoping to include Sanxingdui in my schedule with the tour agency and if they cannot accommodate, i'll DIY like I usually do.

Yup, I don't think you'll have problems going to that part of Sichuan.

Hello buddy, Sanxingdui is located in Guanghan, which is a small town. About an hour's driving from Chengdu. On the way to Sanxingdui, you will probably pass panda reserve. It's good to go there by yourself rather than join in the travel agency.

Dear Friend, Do you have any pictures of Sanxindui or brochures you could send me? or post online? We are finalising our trip this coming March to Sichuan. Be there for 8-10 days, and hopefully, we could pack in as much DIY sight-seeing as possible. Btw, do you know whether the youth lodging at Sichuan can arrange or sell domestic flights to JiuZhaiGou at a drastically reduced price. We did that for Kunming to Lijiang, 60% off normal price. Thanks. My schedule. d1. JiuZhaiGou (2 days) d3. Leshan + HuangLong d4. DiuJiangYan and surrounding d5. Panda Reserve and Sanxingdui d6-8 - Chengdu proper.

Sanxingdui's website: http://www.sxd.cn It doesn't make sense to combine Leshan and Huanglong on the same day.

Hi! Ellyse, I am thankful for your help here and over at the Tripadvisor website too. You are truly our personal China guide online. hahhaha. Anyway, we are planning our schedule this way from March 13-22. 1. Jiuzhaigou and songpan (2-3 days) might include Huanglong. 2. Panda reserve, Happy valley and Sanxingdui (1 full day) 3. Jianmen Shuodao (1 day) 4. Leshan + Dinosaur musuem (1 day) 5. Chengdu city (2-3 days) 6. Any recommendations....maybe...hailou glacier...sth like that... we wanted to do some snowing activities but guess it's the wrong time of the year. Tell me what you think. Thanks.

What's Happy Valley? The only Happy Valley that I can think of is an amusement park in Beijing.

Just went to Chengdu on December 31st 2008 for 4 nights. So knew the Happy Vally Theme Park opened on January 18th. I escorted my English friend to visit Panda Breeding Centre, Dujiangyan Irrigation Project, Qingchengshan, Jinli and Kuanxiangzi etc. So you could take a bus at Xinnanmen long distance bus statiion to Guanghan then tranfer Bus No. 6 to Sanxingdui. When you get back to Chengdu please get off at Panda Avenue to pay a visit for Panda Breeding Center where i high recommend. It is possible to do day trip for these 2 places. One day is too short to visit Leshan and Zigong Dinosaur Museum, but could take a bus at Xinnanmen long distance bus to Leshan and stay in there for night then catch a bus to Zigong to visit the Dinosaur Museum and get back Chengdu buy bus in the another day. As i know, it takes at least 2 days to visit Jianmen Shuodao from Chengdu. I stayed in Sim`s Cozy Garden Hostel for 2 nights which is best one in Chengdu in my opinion. You can take your kids to Jinli to enjoy shadow puppetry freely and go to Shu Feng Ya Yun Tea House to watch typic Sichuan opera including face-changing. Have a good trip! Cheers!
