GUESTGUEST ANN Hi. My husband and myself will be arriving Shanghai Pudong airport on Wednesday 3.30pm, and thinking of going straight to Hangzhou. Can you advice which would allow us to reach Hangzhou the earliest?
(1) take Maglev then cab to Shanghai South Train Station, train to Hangzhou
(2) direct airport bus to Hangzhou

Thanks!

The bus from Pudong airport to Hangzhou will depart at 1530, so you definitely won't be in time for that. The next departure is at 1730, and I don't think it's worth waiting for that departure.
The fastest would probably be to take a taxi from Pudong airport to Shanghai South train station directly, then a D train to Hangzhou. I think you should hopefully be able to reach Shanghai South train station by 1700-1730. Here're some of the possible train departures for Shanghai South -- Hangzhou that you might be able to catch:
D5687 (1747--1919) 1h32min
D5681 (1903--2021) 1h18min
D5683 (2003--2135) 1h32min
If possible, it would be best to get someone to pre-buy the train ticket for you so that you don't need to waste more time figuring that out.
Any more queries, please email to yahoo.com|ellyse99 and put "TravelChinaGuide" and your own username in the subject line, thanks.

If you're arriving at Pudong airport at 0625 you could reach Shanghai South train station (by taxi) in time to catch a D train at 0930 -- but you might not be in time to get a ticket or a seat.
1) No train from Pudong airport to Hangzhou (no train station at Pudong airport!) so this option is impossible. Bus costs 100 RMB/pax.
2) Bus takes about 3 hours.
3) Yes.
4) At the place where you board the bus.
5) Buses to Hangzhou leave Pudong airport at 1010, 1050, 1200, 1330, 1530, 1730 and 1930.

These are long-distance buses, no number, just the destination.

GUESTTPG What would you consider to be the best option for 2 people and 3 pieces of luggage arriving at Pudong on their first trip with no knowledge of the language? Bus direct to Hangzhou or got to Shanghai South train station by bus and then train?

GUEST31521 So is it still so that fastest way from Pudong airport to Hangzhou is to take a taxi? No fast train from Pudong to the city?
