GUEST48978 "A dismissal is not a criminal record."

WRONG! ANYTHING you have EVER been arrested for, regardless if the charges were dismissed or not, will appear on your FBI CRIMINAL background check.

Sorry, but you are either naive, or misinformed. Trust me on this one. Been there and done it.

GUEST48978 The temporary (6 month; 2 entry) visa went through fine after I checked no on my visa application.

Now I've accepted the offer by a foreign company operating in China and have begun collecting the employment and criminal records for the residence permit. I asked my co-worker about the criminal check and here's his response:

"- Get a criminal background check from your county or state that reports at least 10 years. Also need to insure that this looks professional with a stamp or seal or something because the Chinese like that."

*********Okay, did it work? Please do let us know! And btw out of curiosity, since it does ask on the tourist visa to China if you have a criminal record, were you fingerprinted at the airport?**********

I have a local criminal background check but not a state criminal background check. Hmm....but I have also been living in a foreign country for the past 2 1/2 years with no incidents. I wonder if they'd take the old local check that was notarized? Interesting. Please keep us informed!

So I am going to get a report from the current county I live in and this will not show previous convictions from other counties in my state... Wish me luck[/quote]

GUEST48978...(yeah a bit late), BUT, this is not the point. If you have a dismissal you do NOT have a criminal record even though it might be kept in the US FBI records....and given the history of the FBI, they probably know what everyone had for lunch yestedary

GUEST26177 I have a very serious record (federal and state prison terms), but nothing in the last ten years. I took a job oversees that required a letter of good conduct. I went down to the police stations and told a police officer what the situation was. I asked him if he had any advice that might help. He ran my record saw that I had no criminal record for 11 years. He wrote out a letter of good conduct for ten years.
I know some countries require and FBI report and there is no way to get around that, but if you have been clean for 7 to 10 years I would suggest asking for a letter of good conduct for only the amount of time that would show clean. I have not been to China, but from things I have read it does not seem like they are going to call the FBI over hiring a teacher. Make sure you name is not on the internet – do a middle name change if it is!
