I am not convinced that you need to get the criminal record check (most nationalities). Start the application process and see what happens.

GUESTDIHNEKIS | I'm curious about this. I have a single dismissed charge on my record, and I want to work in china. Will i be disqualified? |

A dismissal is not a criminal record.

I am going to Taicang (an hour north of Shanghai) for a job interview next week. It seems like everything is localized in China, I have read that southern China is more strict. Has anyone had any experience, or heard of any experiences with work/residence visas in the Jiangsu Province?

The temporary (6 month; 2 entry) visa went through fine after I checked no on my visa application. Now I've accepted the offer by a foreign company operating in China and have begun collecting the employment and criminal records for the residence permit. I asked my co-worker about the criminal check and here's his response: "- Get a criminal background check from your county or state that reports at least 10 years. Also need to insure that this looks professional with a stamp or seal or something because the Chinese like that." So I am going to get a report from the current county I live in and this will not show previous convictions from other counties in my state... Wish me luck

That sounds fine to me. You should have a 99% chance of no problem
