| U.S President Barack Obama presented a basketball to Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan, special representative of Chinese President Hu Jintao, in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington on July 28, 2009. Wang Qishan and the State Councilor Dai Bingguo was to attend the 2-day US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue. Why does U.S President present a basketball as a national gift to China? In diplomatic activities, every tiny detail is carefully elaborated. U.S president might think it over and over on what national gift U.S can present to China? President Barack Obama must have some implications when he presented a basketball to China? In U.S culture, what does a basketball imply? |

| What does a basketball imply? If given to a son then the parents hope the little sucker will grow to be over 7+ feet (200+ cm.) have great dribbling abilities, be able to shoot 3 point shots 50 % of the time during fierce competition and do acrobatic dunks and lay ups. Of course this entails special diets, growth hormones and God knows what else for the child to endure and all the expenses involved. And even then if all goes well, there is still only a chance of 1 in probably 10,000,000 the kid will make the pros. P.S. this scenario is a lot of hot air on my part. In regards to diplomatic relations and gift giving: Most of our fiat and funny monies were given to banking and financial industries and therefore maybe Mr. President Obama could not afford anything else. |

| Basketball is s strong antagonistic team sports. No national basketball team in the rest of the world can beat against team from USA. We overseas Chinese parents usually encourage our boys who were born with weaknesses rooted in traditional cultures to play basketball game, through which Chinese boys can learn by themselves how to compete under high pressure , how communicate and coorperate and the attitudes to sucess and failure. Basketball is one of strong antagonistic sports that can assist in shaping a child's personality. |

Funny Garky, LOL! The financial makes the U.S president live a life of great austerity. Austerity is a new (Obama's catchprase) Change at the White House? I can't figure out the exaxt underlied meanings Obama aiming to convey. Obama are likely to imitate China's " Pingpong Diplomacy" in 1971, which paved a way to the normalization of Sino-US relation. Sports has always played an important role in diplomacy. Pingpong (table tennis) were consided as Chinese national ball game. Basket is as of similar importance in US as that of Pingpong in China. | Oration and flattery: yes, Obama is good at those things. But I was really hoping for a competent fiscally responsible and non-socialist President! I guess disappointment is good for me - it prepares me for growing old and being told to contemplate suicide as a form of 'medical treatment'. |
