As a Chinese saying goes, “the children of the poor mature early.” True! An anonymous Chinese netizen posted online a set of photos of a respectable Chinese young girl from a poverty-stricken family in a rural area of Southwest China’s Guizhou Province.

When most of her peers were spending their summer vacations, Zhang Qianqian, a 15-16-year-old young girl, was working in a brickyard to help lessen her parents’ burden. Besides the work in the brickyard, she also helped her parents to take care of her three young siblings. I have been used to viewing the flashy propaganda photos of the dazzling China. After viewing this set of photos, my sentiment was evoked. Behind the dazzling national economic growth, how many young kids from rural families are actually being left behind?

This is another picture of China, a scene which is often neglected by photographers and newsmen.
(Hopefully, life will change for good for this little girl in the near future!) When will this Chinese little girl have a good life?

The original poster of this photo said: "upon asking her age, Zhang Qianqian laughed nervously and spoke of other things; I think she might be afraid of involving the “child labor” issue, so I did not keep asking her."

Qianqian's mother is drinking water. Judging from the way she drinks water, she must be a hardworking worker.

Zhang Qianqian has three other siblings. The smallest are twins. Being the eldest child, she has to look after her young siblings.
