I'm looking for my relatives, the decadents of prince Peroz II of Sassanian Persia who fled to China after the fall of the Sassanian kingdom in the mid 7th century. He became a Tang dynasty general, and his son married a Tang princess and their decadents were the military rulers of Canton in the 9th century AD under the Tang family name (Li). If any one from that lineage reads this message, please contact me with details so we can connect the relatives together.

Hello -- it would help if you knew which "Li" this family was? There are many different Li's in China, with different characters for each. Li is also one of the most common surnames in China.

Also, my last name is Li and my family is from Guangzhou. My father was actually born there. He, his brother, and his father all have darker features than normal Chinese people, wavy hair, and thick lips. Our family always thought he might have had some Persian in his lineage.

The "Li" of my family is this "Li". If you can verify you are looking for the same "Li", that would be great.

Here are some photos of my father for illustration. Do you think we may be connected?

the Li family i mean is the decadents of the Tang dynasty who lived in Canton..the last trace of their history is in the 9th century AD when they were the military rulers of Canton..u have to ask elders of the family in order to get stories confirmed, and also they might have documents that reveal family history..here in mid east we have documents of our ancestry so i know my ancestors to Adam from one side, and to 700 BC from another side..the line of the prophet Mohammad meets the Persian line in Ali Zein Al-Abedin (which is the nephew of prince Peroz II the head of the Li/Tang line of Canton). research it more within the elders of the family..and try to ask local professors of history about what happened to the Tang dynasty in Canton. i will wait for ur feed back..it will be good to unit the family after 1400 years

there are some info in the following article that might help:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirooz_II
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narsieh

I suggest that u:
1- ask the elders of ur father's family.
2- go to history professors in the local university who studied that subject and ask them.

Thanks for the response. I will do what I can. It is difficult since my father and the elders on his side are all dead. (My father just passed away last year from stomach cancer, and I am his eldest child.) His own father died in Guangzhou in the 1960's. Perhaps I can contact my uncles and aunts, but I doubt they will know much since they weren't close to their father at all.

Also, my entire family lives in America now (they all emigrated here in the 1990's), so it's hard to find resources for Chinese genealogy here. If there are any resources you can help me with in America (particularly New York City), that would be greatly appreciated.

From research, I do see that my family is the same "Li" that you referred to.

The only info i know is that he married a princess from the Tang dynasty and that his descendants took the name Li (the original name of the Tang dynasty) and that they were the military rulers of Canton in 9th century AD.
