Guilin-Yangsuo-Dragon Back Terrace-Fenghuang-ZhangJieJia Plan

guest17519 I have booked air tickets arriving and departing Guilin for 9 nights arr 1040 and depart 1120 later this month(january)..
Before I finalise my plan as to how to go about, I like to know whether it's possible to visit the highlights of all those places I mentioned above plus the Wind and Rain Bridge area.
Is it advisable to visit all those places ? Will it be too rush ? Is january advisable to go ZZJ ?

I will appreciate if anyone familiar withg this area can help me to plan my itinenary. I will be travelling alone on a budget, not keen to join tour, willing to walk alot, love outdoor scenery and wish to take at least one boat ride in along the best part of the Lijiang river. I hope to stay just 1 night in Guilin, 2 in Yanghuo, 1 in ZJJ, 1 or 2 in FH, 1 in Rice Terrace area, and I have still 2 nights to spare.

I am lost here. I have read many guidebooks but find it hard to plan because they are mostly 1 night each and a few hrs away by transport, and Guilin, FH & ZJJ especially have so many entrance-fee attractions, must I visit all ? Which are the "must-see"s ?

I know I am asking to much. Maybe you can just advise me on the minimun hours required for each place to visit; and I will search for the bus and train times to fix them up.

Thanks alot.

1 night in Fenghuang will be enough.
Leave Guilin for Yangshuo immediately, no need to stay a night there.
BTW you might find http://www.yangers.com to be of interest.

If you're successful at geting all your train tickets and such then it should be ok, otherwise...

I found Fenghuang to be the best place I visited, there is plenty to see in the countryside near it, may I suggest 2 days there

Hmmm, on the contrary I found Fenghuang very commercialised. :(

GUEST16248 I must sleep at least one night in FengHuang. I like such ancient village environment as long as it is need and clean.

BTW, ELLYSE, why care whether it is commercialised or not :-)
There must be good reasons for it, anyway.

I didn't mean that it's not worth your time. We spent 1 night there, but I wouldn't spend 2. Tourism developed too quickly and with less consideration for sustainability than I would've liked.

GUEST52074 Tourism developed too quickly partly to blame on people like you and me who contributed to it :-)

If you mean a contribution in terms of numbers, then perhaps you could count me in.
Otherwise, I hardly appreciate the wanton development by Chinese "authorities" and "developers" of these places -- "Disneyfied" would be an appropriate adjective for a lot of the tourist destinations in mainland China. They seem to be more concerned about making a quick buck rather than considering the sustainability of their tourism resources.

GUEST56202 ELLYSE,

You have contributed very much more than you thought so. I judged it from the number of posts you did :-)

Authorities or developers, who don't wish to make more money ?

Unless China make it like the Bhutan policy.

Arn't we(all people and tourists alike) selfish or unreasonable ? We discover or like a place but we don't want too many other people or tourists to make it commercial or touristy.

I always read posts by travellers who complained a place of being too touristy "now" but they forgot they themselves visited the place and made it touristy :-)
